Pre-race routine:

Up early and drove to the race. Ate peanut butter on my toast and a banana. Held up well through the race.
Event warmup:

Just some shivering before heading to the water.
Swim
  • 11m 2s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

I hadn't swam as much this last month since the last race so I didn't know what to expect but was overall pleased with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Not take a vacation from swimming in between races.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I had a struggle getting my helmet on and went without socks. I regretted that decision because my toes were nearly frozen by the end of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my helmet was ready to snap and definitely put on socks when it is that cold.
Bike
  • 51m 54s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 14.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I went about as hard as I could go but I'm just too slow going up hills. I must get lighter and do more strength training in the this off season.
What would you do differently?:

Wear socks and maybe a long sleeve shirt.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

I put socks on just to warm up my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I set my watch to run during transition.
Run
  • 38m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Looks like the course was on the short side. All of the times for the Clydes were very fast. Ran the entire first mile and most of the 2nd and 3rd miles. Started feeling some soreness in my quads on the hills. Finish line chute was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully eliminate the handful of walking breaks and run a little faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for Whitney to finish and picked up my shirt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Health problems for the last 3 weeks made my training schedule difficult to do.

Event comments:

Despite the cold weather, this race was very fun this year.
