Swim
Comments: The swim went well. I drafted all the way to the turn bouy then lost the draft and picke it up 100 yards from the finish. It was a clean swim with very little contact. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 1
Comments: Transition went really well pleased with how organized I was. I moved quickly and with purpose. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: The bike went well. Being my first race back this season after pneumonia I felt good with my performance. I've been having some breathing issues since being sick so holding back was critical. I wanted to chase racers down but didn't. Turns out there was no one really to chase down in my age group, they were all long gone once the bike started. The joys of a fast age group. I was pleased with my drinking and hill climbing. What would you do differently?: If I was back to 100% I would probably push this race more. I was happy to be back and racing. Transition 2
Comments: First time doing flying dismount in a race and I nailed it. Some race volunteer commented on my performance. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I started out slow wanting to see how my breathing was. I stayed in control and after a mile I slowly picked up the pace. Saw very few people out running especially after the turn around for the sprint. Caught up and eventually passed a couple racers including a women I thought was in my age group but her calf proved otherwise. I enjoyed the run, it was nice to build slowly. I played leap frog with a racer but after the final turn onto the trails I passed him on the uphill and he didn't respond. I am very pleased with the run considering. I paced this race well considering my fitness level at this point in the season. What would you do differently?: Pin my chip differently. It popped up and ended up cutting my ankle pretty bad. My shoes are proof that I need to take more care when pinning the chip. Post race
Warm down: Cheered on a few racers, had water and a banana. Packed up my gear and headed to spend the day with my Mom for a belated Mother's Day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness, coming back from pneumonia.I'm happy to be back racing this season. I'm slower than last season but look forward to building for the rest of the races on my calendar. Event comments: This is a nice local race. It could be more organized. We had a hard time finding transition based on the directions on the website. The bike course was well marked but the run course started out quite confusing and I thought I was lost. It eventually got better further out on the course. Race events were delayed a little and the announcer was unsure about where the swim course went. I didn't stick around after the race but they were giving out all sorts of prizes in addition to the race awards. The pro's of this race are you don't have to show up at an expo one or two days before it starts. The field is small and it't a fun course with short climbs and fast downhills. Had a bagel with peanut butter and headed to the venue. We got a great parking spot and I went and got registered while my mom hung out in the car. Set up transition then hung out and chatted with a couple other racers and my mom before the start.
Jogged a bit then stretched.
