Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Relax, chat and get everything ready. Ate gu and 5 hr energy a few minutes before the swim.
Event warmup:

No warmup, a little stretching, my one goal in this race, stay calm in the open water swiw, no panic - started lined up on the bouy line, in the rear, only get hit a dozen or so times, stayed calm and smooth the entire swim, using legs very litte.
Swim
  • 26m 17s
  • 820 yards
  • 03m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swimming is mike weak point, just keep practicing, signed up for the STG Irom man 2012, mucn work to do.
What would you do differently?:

Catching water, need practice
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

*Note, had wet suit strippers on the boat ramp, had them strip the suit. Likely save a few seconds. My previous open water Tri was exhausted after the swim, good energy after the swim on this Tri.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 42m 17s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy wiht the bike placing - bike crash at the sprint turnaround, about 30 feet ahend of me, a lady was passing (doing the Olypic distance, and a guy durin the sprint turned around, she went down hard swearing at the rider. From my point of view, both were at fault, her not anticpating the sprint U turn and him not looking before turning.
What would you do differently?:

Push the hills harder, could have save a couple of minutes, lost third place by three minutes, could have made it closer with a harder bike, I will never let up on the bike again for a sprint.
Transition 2
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

Had new tri shoes and pedals, not yet broke end, almost biffed in getting out the pedals before the no bike line, I really need to practice on transistion.
What would you do differently?:

Lock shoes in the shoes in the pedal and put them on during the bike.
Run
  • 1h 36m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 30m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Need work, guts, guts, guts.
What would you do differently?:

Do pickups during the run, this would help gain time.
Post race
Warm down:

Kept on my feet, walking and drinking, talking to other athletes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knees.

Event comments:

Good race, scary downhill, bikers going 40 mph or faster, accross a cattle gaurd, could have some real trouble, there should be a not pass zone for 50 yrds before the cattle gaurd.
