Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 11/17
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel and energy bar around two hours before race time.
Event warmup:

One lap around a nearby track. Stretched for about 15 mintues. Spent about five mintues in the warmup pool practicing wall taps. Got all the gear ready.
Swim
  • 08m 13s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Monitor my breathing better.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Could not get my feet in the damn pedals. It took about six attempts to get them hooked on as it had been a long time since I had even practiced.
What would you do differently?:

Practice foot placement many more times prior to the race.
Bike
  • 43m 25s
  • 12.1 miles
  • 16.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall this part killed my time. The chain thing sucked. I should have done some more real bike time prior to the race and practiced on my local hill course.
What would you do differently?:

Get more real bike time in practice as opposed to just the gym. It is NOT the same no matter how you simulate it.
Transition 2
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Did not expect to have run so far in my bike shoes. Had to go around all of the other bike racks otherwise it was a DQ.
What would you do differently?:

Anticipated the transition more.
Run
  • 27m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I should have squeezed in some more road time and less treadmill time. Maybe drank too much liquids on the run. I did not push myself hard enough and kind of gave up when I saw I was not going to meet my timed goal.
What would you do differently?:

Suck it up more and go for it.
Post race
Warm down:

Very little other than drinking water and walking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of preparation on the bike, I knew I would struggle with the run.

Event comments:

Good time for my first race. I'm hooked!

Performance:
Way more hills than advertised, to me anyways. Chain fell off 1/4 mile into it, due to bad gear changes on my part. Had to dismount to fix that and then battle the pedals once again. Tailwind going up hills and headwind going down hills did not help at all.
Wind: Some
Course: More hills than advertised. Long ascending hills with not much help going downhill. They did a great job of protecting and guiding us, with the help of local police directing traffic. (Thanks so much guys.)
