Swim
Comments: Started ~45th. Great start. Did flip turns the first several laps until I started to catch people and ran out of room. Passed 5 or 6 in the water. Was passed by 1 in the middle and stayed on his feet the rest of the way. Ran into a couple of minor traffic jams which slowed things down a bit. A couple of guys really did not want to let anyone pass. Out of the water at 7:15. Time includes a short run to transition. Passed the guy who passed me in the water and one other on this run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Fastest of the group, 19th overall. Felt a little slow. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Bike
Comments: Very fast first third due to gradual downhill. Most of the rest is much slower uphill with some head wind. Rolling hills. I'd like to have a couple more gears for the downhill to get the momentum up higher for the inclines. Average speed is below average, but not bad for this coarse. Passed 20+ riders and no one passed me, so I felt the pace was pretty good. My time last year was 38:29. I would have hoped for more than 10sec faster... What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: 2nd in group, 39th overall. Felt very slow. Someone left their bike on the ground blocking several spots. I had to move it in order to rack my bike then rack their bike for them because I felt bad that I had blocked the aisle when i threw it out of the way. I think it was one of the women's bikes. Not sure what it was doing in our rack. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: It was 90+F. 7:24, 7:45, 7:27, 0:38. Passed 5-6 runners without getting passed. I couldn't negative split the miles like usual, but everyone else was probably a little slowed by the heat as well. I think the coarse was a little longer than previous years. There was an extra loop around 2 miles in that I don't remember being there before. Last year's run was 25:24, so definite improvement here. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Had several bottles of water. Sat in the shade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. I would like to look into doing something about my gears, if that's possible. I rarely need the little gears and I frequently want a few bigger gears on even slight downhill sections. I was faster this year in each part of the race. Very happy to see the 3.5+ minutes of improvements. Event comments: Could use a few more/more vocal volunteers to direct people around transition and on the run. I've been looking forward to racing this event since it was 1 week after the Muncie HIM 70.3. After a long race like that, I felt very prepared for a fast sprint. I raced XL1 thinking that I should be able to win the group. Ended up 12.5 minutes ahead of the next XL1. I would have also won the 35-39 AG by 2.5 min. Last updated: 2011-06-30 12:00 AM

Ran a half mile or so. Swam a couple hundred in the pool.
