Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 175/517
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 13/27
Pre-race routine:

Forgot goggles and had to go home. Was in a big rush to get there before transition closed.
Event warmup:

No time for a warm up. Although walked very fast from the parking to transition.
Swim
  • 07m 35s
  • 383 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Don't know what happened. I usually go at under 2:00 per hundred for a race. I little behind normal. The race organizers lost complete control over the start order. People were jumping in whenever they wanted. Why ask what your time is if it doesn't matter. Had to manuever some traffic so that may have been some of the problem.
What would you do differently?:

Have not been swimming as often as usual. My indoor pool in closed and the outdoor pool I train in is a mess with summer traffic. A little slow but I'll take it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Bought tri clips so I could start with my shoes clipped in before the race. This had to take at least a minute of transition. I can get better but this was a huge timesaver. Very happy.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more with the tri clips.
Bike
  • 36m 52s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty fast. Was only passed by a few people. Most of the races this year I was slower and got passed alot. Actually very happy with the results of the bike. I have spent alot of time on the bike in the past six weeks and it was definitely paying off. Top third in age group and 149 overall seems pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Couldn't find the dismount line and slowed down too early. Not really my fault but need to get more familiar with stepping out of the dismount when getting my feet out of my shoes before the dismount line.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Had a little trouble getting the bike racked and getting shoes on. However, this was the best transition time I have ever had. Very happy with the result. Dismounting with the shoes still clipped is huge. First time I have been able to do this.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 28m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is definitely my weakness. However, running at a 9 minute pace is a record. A few long climbs hurt my time some but I am very happy with my progress. Ranking was the lowest of the 3 events. If I were to improve a little here, I would move up quite a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on running endurance and speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing much. Waited for my son to finish and cheered him on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing much except me. My fitness is getting better each week. Best race I have had yet so I am moving in the right direction.

Event comments:

Was a fast race and fairly flat course. The volunteers were encouraging. The facility is great. I really like the run sections on the rubber track surface. That was nice on the legs. Bike course had several turnarounds but they were managed well. Only complaint is the swim start. Wheels off with everyone jumping in line whenever they wanted. Maddening to say the least with slow swimmers in the way. If you are going to ask for swim times, please abide by the order. Breakfast was pretty good and the finishing area was nice with plenty of room for spectators. Would do this one again.
