Overall Rank = 96/172
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and a bowl oatmeal and small coffee. Ate a cliff bar and water on the drive to race. Did not need to arrive as early as I did.
Event warmup:

Not much, walking around and a little stretching.
Swim
  • 8h 13m
  • 875 yards
  • 56m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Race was changed to run-bike-run. Field went out fast, tried to pace myself. Overall run went ok.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Took a little too long getting bike shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Get shoes on quicker.
Bike
  • 54m 15s
  • 14.1 miles
  • 15.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Very tough course. Struggled to get clipped in, did not loose much time. Passed a few, got passed by more. Was not prepared for run prior to bike, so took legs a few minutes to get going. Muscled up steep hill, overall did ok.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time on the bike training.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Legs like jello when I jumped off bike.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting feet out of shoes and ridding with feet on top of shoes.
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Took about 1/4 mile for legs to get back under me after the bike. I did walk once while getting a drink of water at the turn around point. Run turned out faster than I thought I was runnning. Did push the last 1/2 to 1/4 to get under the 1:30 total time.
What would you do differently?:

keep running, no need to walk.
Post race
Warm down:

bannana and water. than hotdog and sobe.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run replaced swim because of water conditions.

Event comments:

Swim was canceled due to unsafe water conditions from hurricane flooding and tropical storm run off. Swim was replaced with a 1.5k run. Glad sponsor and USAT were testing water prior to race. Volunteers were great, very encouraging, and directions on turns were very visable. Steep bike course, very challenging. Nice finishing metals. Great overall event, free buffet afterwards (hotdogs, drinks, salads, pierogies) for all racers and spectators.
