Pre-race routine:

Grabbed race gear and headed for the transition area to set up. Laura ran this race too; Walt brought bikes while Laura and I got in line for our packets.
Event warmup:

None -- that was a mistake!! Well.. I guess if you count running between the car, the port-a-john and visiting with friends (big turnout!!!)...
Swim
  • 24m 21s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

I actually had a guy grab the back of my tri suit and pull me under him, then crawled over the top of me. It was pretty clear from the color of my cap that I wasn't another guy... really pissed me off... and threw off my time. Not because of the swim... just could not believe that someone would do that.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. It threw off the whole race for me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

None
Bike
  • 55m 54s
  • 22.5 kms
  • 24.15 km/hr
Comments:

Hilly -- very pretty though.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Felt good about the transition -- think that part is improving
Run
  • 42m 8s
  • 5 kms
  • 08m 26s  min/km
Comments:

The run is the hardest part of this event for me. Having said that, I do love it. This was by far the prettiest course we've run this year -- I don't remember (all the races have sort of melded into one) running down the levy last year; although it was hilly, it was a nice course.
Post race
Warm down:

Laura was sitting by the finish line with an ice pack on her knee -- she blew her ACL again -- she said it went the last mile, but she kept running. And came in first place in her division. My warm down was hugging my baby.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was all in my head... I was still pissed at the guy during the swim.

My warm down was hugging my baby. I am so proud of her determination and her sportsmanship that however hurt I was still feeling about the bad behaviour from the guy who grabbed my suit during the swim, it all faded when I saw Laura. For me, she embodies the true heart of the sport.
