Swim
Comments: Seemed to go better than last year. My chip was tucked under my wetsuit, goggles didn't fog. I tried to push myself to go a little faster than my comfort level for a long swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was faster than last year, did an ok job with navigation - except towards the end. Transition 1
Comments: I wanted to try no-socks, but chickened out. I have been ok on the bike when I've done it in training rides. My feet are ok running w/o socks, but there are a lot of people with hoses spraying water on you during the run - making for wet shoes, which can = blisters. What would you do differently?: Practice more with my new pedals - it took me a few tries to get my first foot clipped in. Still...better than my 7+ min T1 from Wildflower 05. Bike
Comments: I really pushed myself on the bike. Wanted to get 16mph average - came up a little short. Happy with my new road pedals & shoes What would you do differently?: Make sure my bike computer is secured! About 3/4 of the way through I noticed it was loose. Ended up yanking it off and storing it in my back pocket. Somehow figure out how to calm my breathing down - maybe I pushed too hard up the first (Lynch) hill? Learn to ride w/o Camelbak? Aerobars? Ended up having Cytomax in Camelbak & on bike - one of those was supposed to be water. Just a silly mistake. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Forgot to take my last Gu! Run
Comments: This run just felt off - breathing, legs, the whole thing. Maybe because I pushed on the bike...heat, hydration, nutrition? Got a side cramp about 1/4 of the way in and got Gatorade up my nose :( What would you do differently?: Dunno. Not a good run for me. I've done quite a few bricks lately - maybe need to get some more long runs in too. Post race
Warm down: Walk, eat, stretch, hang out in the lake a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: It's now Wednesday and I have a cold, on top of my allergies. Someone asked me if I had asthma during the run - this cold explains some of my breathing issues. Event comments: My second time at Wildflower - and I'm closer to my 3:00 goal. Would have been nice to get there this time around, but I'll have to work harder to meet it next year. Great volunteers and atmosphere. Last updated: 2006-05-10 12:00 AM
