Age Group Rank = 40/65
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area then walked around eating a pb&j on wheat. Just made sure I knew where my rack was as I was coming in and out of transition
Event warmup:

Just lots of stretching.
Swim
  • 14m 29s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Much better swim for me than last year. I was about 2 minutes faster this year, but I was much more confident in the water. Last year was my first ever ows and I suffered severe panic. Taking the time to prep for the race and getting comfortable in the open water really helped me this year.
What would you do differently?:

I still need to work on my speed, maybe doing drills rather than just swimming laps when I go to the pool. Different goggles, we were swimming into the sun, which made it hard to see the buoys with clear lenses.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

Much better transition for me, All the advice from BT helped me cut my time down
What would you do differently?:

Not much very pleased with my time
Bike
  • 49m 25s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew what to expect as I did this race last year, but I was still unprepared for the hills. Due to a calf injury in December I wasn't able to train the way I wanted to for the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Work on the bike, I have plenty of room for improvement. More time in the saddle for sure, I need to work on both my endurance, and my handling skills. Being able to keep my shoes clipped in when I mount and dismount is a skill I need to learn.
Transition 2
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Dismounted and ran my bike into transition. Easily found my rack, and racked my bike. I put on my socks and running shoes, and removed my helmet. I grabbed my race belt and put it on as I was running out to save time.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to leave my shoes clipped into my pedals. Maybe get speed laces for my running shoes.
Run
  • 29m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run finally broke 30 minutes in a race.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to drink more on the bike so I could skip the last water stop on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of stretching then just walking around trying to find my family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training due to a calf injury in December.

Event comments:

Even though I was under trained I still PR'd and finished 13 minutes faster than I did last year. Overall I am very pleased with my performance. Plus I got to meet the Claaaw in transition, the weather was perfect, so overall a nice day.
