Swim
Comments: Started at the back of the wave, which happened to be right after the pros. Stayed close to the buoys and took my time. Water was VERY shallow and I ended up walking close to if not half of the course. It ended up being tougher than I realized to pace the swim behind the guys in front of me, so walking made more sense that paddling slower. What would you do differently?: Need to get better at swimming, especially form. Transition 1
Comments: There were wetsuit strippers, which was nice. When I came out it took me a few seconds to realize where the strippers were. My stall was right near the T1 exit/entrance, which was great. What would you do differently?: Was a little discombobulated...forgot my number belt so had to run back 10 yards to grab. Debated what shorts to wear for run (no tri suit) and settled with running shorts that were in a different place. Overall need to get more organized and realize less gear is better. Bike
Comments: Course was pretty soaked, so I took it slowly. Good ride overall. What would you do differently?: I didn't push myself at all and would probably push harder in future races. Transition 2
Comments: Made the mistake of trying to get off one side of bike while coasting in. I didn't fall but it didn't fel natural so I stumbled slightly. Run down the shoot went fine and my stall was right near the entrance. What would you do differently?: Just need to practice more and keep my stall less cluttered. Run
Comments: Overall good run. Felt a cramp starting to come on in mile 1, but adjusted breathing and it was gone well before mile 2. Based on my watch, the run was under 26 minutes, which is a PR for a 5k. What would you do differently?: Push myself more, took it easy for this first race. Post race
Warm down: Finished bottle of water from finish line. Hung out with Anna and went to food tent for frozen yogurt, banana, and finished my Gu (PB). What limited your ability to perform faster: Nerves and transition comfort. Event comments: Overall great race. It went off about 5 minutes behind schedule, probably due to steady rain falling pre-race. Good support overall. Last updated: 2012-05-20 12:00 AM

Drove up to the lake Friday afternoon to check in and go to the first timer's seminar, which was done by a coach I had done spinning with in the winter. Stayed at my in-law's house in Moultonborough, which ended up being just as far away as if I had stayed at home.
Woke up around 3:45 and had two pieces of toast with PB and jelly on the hour drive over. Had everything in bags laid out from night before.
Splashed around in the water a bit before the start of the race and did some streching, but nothing major.
