Age Group Rank = 22/25
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, drove to the race site, ate half of a plain bagel. Setup transition area and milled around for a bit.
Event warmup:

No special warmup.
Swim
  • 11m 42s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a nice course for the swim, and I really liked the time trial start. My swim performance was a little below par, maybe because of the early wake up. The time does include a short run to the transition area.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

This was an ok T1 for me, a little slower than I would have liked, but in all not too bad.
Bike
  • 45m 32s
  • 12 miles
  • 15.81 mile/hr
Comments:

The first long climb on Cleveland highway was not too bad. It has some nice grades to it and drags on for about a mile before leveling off. The second climb, after the dip on Honeysuckle road was a killer. I had hoped to attack the descent and roll up a good portion of the climb, but that didn't quite work out. The clime out was bigger than the descent and everyone around me (including myself) struggled up the hill. That wore out my legs for the rest of the climbs on Honeysuckle, but once we turned back towards the park, I was able to attack again and make up some time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to continue training on hills. I have gotten much better over the past several months but still have some room to improve.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

This was a pretty good T2. Ran with the bike to the rack and traded out shoes and hats quickly. Put on my race number while I was running out of transition.
Run
  • 36m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the first tri where I was able to run the entire 5k course. The result of a lot of running since my last race. I had my first experience of passing a few people on this part of the race, which was exciting.
What would you do differently?:

This was by far, my best run of any triathlon I have done. This was the result of a lot of running (for me). In the weeks prior to the race, I was running 2 x 5k and 1 x 10k per week and it paid off in this race.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water, ate some fruit, walked around a bit. Stretched.

Event comments:

Georgia Multisports puts on a very good event. There were tons of volunteers and all of the courses were well marked. This is my second race with Ga. Multisports and I continue to be impressed with how well they do.
