Overall Rank = 34/112
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/19
Pre-race routine:

Granola cereal with berries for breakfast. Ate a power bar just before the race, used the washroom a few times, went in the water to let a little in my wetsuit, then did a few stretches.
Swim
  • 13m 3s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

I like the open water and was not worried about the other swimmers once I got in. I was able to keep my speed up and passed other swimmers as I got further into the race. Came out strong.
What would you do differently?:

Would check the course better so I have a better idea of where I'm getting out. If I had been first, I wouldn't have known where I was going in the last part of the race!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I was dizzy and really wanted a moment to gather myself. I felt really slow. I had a hard time reaching my wetsuit string.
What would you do differently?:

I'd like to try clipping shoes in ahead of time so I'm ready to go. Also make sure to leave my string long enough to easily reach it and begin to lull it as I leave the water.
Bike
  • 54m 33s
  • 26 kms
  • 28.60 km/hr
Comments:

Everything would have been great if I'd known how to shift properly and if my bike fit me properly. The first half of the race went terribly. Couldn't get grip of the road, thought I was in the highest gear the bike had. Spinning like crazy and exhausting myself. People passed me constantly. Finally around 16kms in, I tried shifting a different way and it worked. My legs slowed down and I started passing people - only too late!
What would you do differently?:

A bike that fits, train more in advance, and now at least I know how to use the shifters!
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Try taking my feet out of my shoes early! Jump off moving bike too! Also, my ipod headphone wires were a mess! Had a hard time untangling them!
Run
  • 28m 56s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 47s  min/km
Comments:

Felt very good in the beginning - only the mess with my i-pod wires was perhaps slowing me a little. Wish I had a watch to tell me how fast I'm running. Even with drizzle of rain, I was hot and thankful for my water bottles and the guy spraying a hose at us!
What would you do differently?:

Train better in advance, lean forward with my ankles, keep head up, and run down hills faster.
Post race
Event comments:

I liked that it was relaxed, but well-organized. Also liked that it was small - easier to place!
