Swim
Comments: This was a good swim. I was planning on taking it easy, which I did. I navigated very well for the first 3/4, but as I grew tired, I started to zigzag a bit. Overall, a very good swim. I felt fresh when I got out, and I was relatively fast. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: Good T1. Took it weasy coming up the hill, but passed a couple of people. Had the wetsuit below my waist by the time I got to my bike. No problems getting feet out. I was shocked to see that I was almost a full minute slower than prior years throught T1, but I was right on pace, if not faster than the people who beat me. What would you do differently?: Not much. I could hve run a bit harder coming up the hill, but no one passed me, and I caught the 2 people in my age group that beat me on hte swim. Bike
Comments: The bike is, by far, my weakest link. I dropped my chain twice when shifting onto the big chain ring. I felt liked I pushed a little, but never too bad. I definitley could have gone harder, but I wanted to save something for the run, What would you do differently?: Push a bit harder, not trying to save too much. Also, adjust the bike beforehand to prevent the mechanical issues Transition 2
Comments: this went pretty smoothly. No issues. Got shoes on easily without socks What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: The run went well. The first 3/4 mile is down hill. I felt pretty slow for the first 15 min or so. There aren't any mile markers, so I didn't really know my pace too well. Once i got out of the woods and onto the roads, I started to pick it up - not really trying to, but my legs began feeling better and it was long ,flatter roads. Once I hit the trail around the lake, I started picking off a lot of people. Finished the 3/4 mile up hill strongly, felt a lot better than I expected to. I only was passed by 2 people during the run. Sub 45 min has been a goal for a long time and this was the first time I've done it. What would you do differently?: nothiing Post race
Warm down: walked arounda bit, watching others finish What limited your ability to perform faster: hills on the bike, and dropping my chain twice, which cost 90 sec-2 min. Event comments: Once again, this was a great race. Beautiful location and course. Everything on time, very organized, lots of volunteers. My only gripe is the lack of mile markers on the course. Post race spread was great, tons of door prizes given away. They said Awards ceremony would start at 11, but it didn't start til 11:50, which was a bit of a downer, but no big deal. This was my 4th year doing this race, I highly recommend it. Just make sure to ride some hills in training. Last updated: 2012-08-14 12:00 AM
