Swim
Comments: Swim start was a chaos. Too many people. Got kicked all the way. For a while I was drafting off someone who suddenly switched from crawl to breaststroke. Got kicked on the chest. A few times I got some heads bumped into my stomach. Went off course for a bit. A swim angle on a surf board told me to get back into the right direction. I think I'm relatively fast as I saw lots of pink caps from the wave before by the time I round the 2nd bouy. What would you do differently?: Maybe seeding myself closer to the FOP to avoid being kicked by people? And not to get off course. Although I don't think I lost too much time there. Transition 1
Comments: Long way from beach to T1. I shaved ~2 min from last year's time by jogging the whole way (walked most of it last year). I put my pair of slippers along the way so that I didn't have to hurt my feet when running on the sandy/pebbbled area. I also placed a bottle of gatorade by the slippers so that I can sip on it while running to my bike. Rinsed off feet in my plastic bucket and quickly put on socks and bike shoes. helmet on, gloves on, threw a CLIF chot blok into my mouth and started pushing my bike to mount area. What would you do differently?: nothing. I'm happy with my time Bike
Comments: Started cranking right away. I knew that crazy mile-long hill would be intimidating. Tried to ride fast at the beginning and use momentum to help me up the hill. Thought to myself "I did it last year without getting off the bike, I can do it this year". My avg speed at that hill was some 8 mph. After that hill, I felt I was golden. Except for that broken, bumpy downhill where 20 volunteers stationed to tell racers to go slow, I cranked most of the course, yelling "ON YOUR LEFT!". Even had the energy to say hi to spectators and volunteers. What would you do differently?: Should hydrate more. Made the mistake of putting a gatorade bottle with screw cap instead of my bike water bottle. Had to use 2 hands to open screw cap if I want to drink. Ended up not drinking on bike. Transition 2
Comments: I love my Yankz. :) What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My goal for this race is to run the whole course (walked 1/2 of it last year due to side pain), and I met my goal. A little tight on the quads right off the bike, but I forced myself to move them. Realized I didn't drink at all on the bike so I made sure I stop at every water station. By that time, the temperature was much higher than at race start. Took 2 cups of water at every station, one to drink, the other to pour over my body. Slight uphill right after TA made it harder to run on tight legs. By mile 2, my legs loosen up, but I started to feel tired. Distracted myself by looking for people i know. Saw a couple of TriFury women whose faces I didn't recognized (saw their TriFury uniform). Yelled to them "GO TRIFURY!". 0.5 mile from finish I saw my coworker who started 5 waves after me. Last year, she started 3 waves after me and overtook me at the run. Got back to the park, started sprinting the last 100 yard or so to the finish line. What would you do differently?: run faster? Post race
Warm down: Got food. Made sure I got ice-cream. Waited for coworkers by the finish line. Walked back and forth, went to AdCo's car a few times to see if any BTers are hanging out there. Didn't see anyone. Event comments: I'm happy to shave 7:02 minutes off my official time from last year. Met my goal of not walking at the run course, and not getting off my bike at that mile-long hill. Last updated: 2006-06-02 12:00 AM

We stayed at a motel some 15 min to race site, so we kind of took our time. Got up, ate some cereal, a small cup of crappy coffee, sip water/gatorade, drove to race site. Parked ~1 mile from transition area. Walked our bikes to TA. Looked for Jorge. I tried to save my arms and legs for him to body-mark me. Didn't see him. Saw Nikki, AdCo (Adam) -he taped my BT sign on his car window :)
So many people there, and we arrived sort of late. Racks are almost full. Not easy to find a spot with enough space to put my stuff. Moved both my neighbors' bikes a inch on each side to give myself more space :p
Jogged from TA to beach and back to TA. Jumped into the lake to do a few strokes. Water is comfortable. I was in wave 14. While waiting for my wave to start, I walked around, and hung out with my coworkers who start at different waves. Ate a CLIF chot 20 min before swim start.
Found out em73 (Monica) and trilinerror (Lin) are in the same wave. Nice to start the race with them.
