Pre-race routine:

Picked up packet and drove the course. Pre-race meal the night before at Pizzeria Uno. Stayed the night at Comfort Suites 325 West Main Street, Lexington, SC, US, 29072 Phone: (803) 996-2000.
Played with the kids and the wife in indoor pool the night before. Slept until 0600 then had a couple coffees and went down to the breakfast buffet, had a couple waffles and eggs.
Event warmup:

I rode the bike for a couple miles, discovered that my bike wouldn't shift back up. I could come off the 53T but couldn't bring it back up. The bike mechanic couldn't fix it before the race so essentially I raced a 10 speed for the 21 mile rolling hill course.
Swim
  • 19m 42s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Wave start, accidentaly got out in the front and then suffered all the people crawling over me. I had to breathe left side (weaker side) because I couldn't site on my right side.
What would you do differently?:

My only swimming in the month of September was kiawah island olympic triathlon (1500m) and the dam tri (1000m). Next time will tri to swim some more prior to racing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

I was exhausted after the swim and could not get my legs working. Finally got it together and made it out of transition. Clipped in right away which was important because I had a monster hill coming out of transition and no little gear.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 58m 21s
  • 21 miles
  • 21.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a gu right off the start, then miles 6, 13, and 19. I ended up around a competitive grouping after mile 4. We paced each other throughout the race (no drafting). I ended up leaving the group around mile 17 on the last set of hills. I was crushing the hills despite only having 10 gears.
What would you do differently?:

I would have a working front derailleur.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Nothing special here, threw socks and shoes on. Put visor and number on as I ran out of T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 48s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Drank at all 3 aid stations and kept a really good turnover race. I knew I was moving well because my hamstrings started to feel like they were going to explode at mile 1.5. Overall one of my best runs ever despite the course error with distance. The kids ran through the finish with me which makes it a perfect ending.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bit and ate a bunch of food. Did not stretch regrettably.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, pretty much PR for all areas.

Event comments:

Will do again and highly recommend for anyone willing to make the race. With a 0800 start time it's perfect for the family. The hotel was 7 minutes away and had a great breakfast.
