Overall Rank = 235/

Age Group Rank = 6/24
Pre-race routine:

Plain oatmeal and coffee when I woke up. Nervously munched on a Marathon Bar before the race start. Drank one coconut water
Swim
  • 36m 18s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim is obviously a strong part of my race. I need to continue to improve spotting, not getting foggy goggles and navigating slower swimmers. I had hoped to finish in 40 minutes so I was very pleased.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

My transitions are just still slow. I put my shoes and socks on and ran in shoes. Considering how rough the rocks were I think that's the best. Next season I might try sockless.
Bike
  • 3h 15m 8s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.22 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike is my weakest leg by a long stretch. I did fine considering my equipment and training but I could be a lot faster on the bike. It was really challenging getting through the wind and I should have pushed the pace more on the tailwind legs but I was being cautious because I felt like I needed to save up for the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

My shoes were set up with speed laces that were too tight. I put my foot in my shoe and the tounge got slid down into my shoe so I had to fix it which took some time.
What would you do differently?:

Just get faster.
Run
  • 2h 07m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Given how strong the winds were and how much effort I expended on the bike, my goal adjusted from 2 hours to simply running without walking and I did that. I probably could've gone a little faster but was cautious so that I didn't bonk.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little faster, but not too much faster.
Post race
Event comments:

For my first HIM, I am really pleased. I would recommend this race to anyone, especially first timers but just be prepared to deal with the wind.

Performance: Good
Suit: XTerra Volt
Course: Two laps in a nice lake. You actually get out of the water at the half way point, jog around a turn around (over a timing mat) and go back in. Pretty well marked, no current. I caught lots of folks from the earlier groups and had to weave through them. Goggles still fogging up.

Wind: Strong with gusts
Course: The course is fine. Completely flat through nurseries and farms in rural Florida. Some impatient drivers passed aggressivly but the traffic control was great. It was WINDY!! I literally had to lean to the side in the crosswinds and the return leg into a strong headwind was really tough.

I didn't wear my HR monitor so I don't know. The Garmin took a bit to kick in with satellites
Course: Fine I had hoped to see more animals in the zoo especially after seeing the calendar with pictures of giraffes and elephants but I had to settle for a black bear, giant tortoise and some lemurs. Still, it's a fun way to knock out 13 miles. Some of it is on gravel and uneven terrain though which undoubtedly slowed me down.
