Total Time = 1h 14m 47s
Overall Rank = 71/
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 6/22
Pre-race routine:

1 hour 30 min before race time: eat a banana, a cheese burger, and a bottle of water. (it may sound disgusting for a pre-race meal but I swear by it.)

1 hour before: set up transition area and converse with other racers near my transition spot

15 minutes before race time: Gu energy gel!
Event warmup:

A dip into the warm up pool to acclimate to the water temperature
Swim
  • 09m 44s
  • 500 yards
  • 29m 12s / 1500 yards
Comments:

Swimming is by far my weakest event in every Triathlon I do. I had been swimming regularly for 3 months before this event and I noticed a huge improvement compared to races when I hadn't done much preparation swimming (shocking huh?). Overall I felt good and I came in at a time that I was expecting. The only annoying thing was the guy who decided to do the backstroke the whole time. He kept whacking me and the other swimmers as we passed him. Overall, not a bad time for myself
What would you do differently?:

Im going to start working on my flip turns. Times in the pool will drop and swimming endurance will increase
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

LONG run from the pool to the transition area for the guys (felt like 600 to 700 meters). Once I made it to my bike everything went quickly.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn how to have my shoes locked into the bike before I start and slip my feet in as I am peddling
Bike
  • 38m 22s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I came in about 7 minutes faster than I was expecting. I haven't had nearly as much time to train on the bike as I would have liked over the past few months (Thanks Junior level college classes). I felt good coming in but I didn't realized how much better I did than I thought I was going to.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

The run with the bike in the transition area was long, however everyone there had to deal with it so I can't complain about that too much
What would you do differently?:

Learn to slip feet out with shoes still attached to the bike
Run
  • 21m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

My run came in a lot slower than normal. I usually expect my run time to be less than 19 minutes for a 5 k. Maybe I just over exerted myself on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bike, run transition to get my legs back under me faster
Post race
Warm down:

Went straight to Chipotle and asked them to make me a big burrito.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A serious lack of training over the past few months.

Event comments:

Ill be back next year! It was a great race with lots of interesting and fun people to be around.
