Swim
What would you do differently?: Practice more OWS! Much more. Also get in the water a bit and swim around before the race starts, just to get used to water temp and feel. Transition 1
Comments: Getting on the bike was great after such a horrible swim. What would you do differently?: I would not put on sleeves, just put on a light long sleeve dry fit shirt. Putting on sleeves took too long. Also practice just a little more on getting out of wet suit and getting gear on. Bike
Comments: Loved the bike. Felt good to be passing people. I knew I needed to make up some time due to the swim, and the bike would be the only place I could do it. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: My feet were really numb due to cold, so they seemed to move a little slower. I had just received a pair of stretch laces, and they seemed to be quicker than lacing up my riding shoes. (Yes, I know, I should not have laces in my riding shoes, but a school teacher only has so much money to spend.) What would you do differently?: I would practice getting on and off bike more. Run
Comments: Run felt pretty good. Because my feet were cold, it felt like I was running with club feet. My legs were fairly strong the whole way. What would you do differently?: Practice more bike to run workouts. Even if they are short ones. Post race
Warm down: I met with my chiropractor immediately after, as she was there doing free therapy. She didn't spend too much time on me as she had a line-up and I felt pretty good. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure, maybe cold water? Event comments: It is a great race for beginners and for those that have experience. I would definitely recommend to others! Race Omaha
51F / 11C
Overcast
Overall Rank = 34/174
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/26
Ate 7 Grain Hot cereal with milk and craisins about 2 1/2 hrs. before race. Also had cup of coffee with creamer, and a pre-workout energy drink (Ares Black) 1/2 serving in water.
Hubby drove me to race, and we walked to transition area. I started to put my stuff out and some gals showed up and we all were new and didn't know which side of the bike to put our stuff. I was told one way, so I moved my stuff, to later be told I was wrong by another gal that had done other races before. So i moved my stuff again. I got my chip timer, and began to get my wetsuit on.
I checked the water temp by just getting my feet and goggles wet. Tried to loosen up some muscles with some light stretching. Made sure my bike was in the right gear for getting up the hill right out of transition area.
