Pre-race routine:

We camped on site the day before so i was up far too early and made a cup of tea on the camping stove and had a banana sandwich. Put all my stuff in transition . HIt the loos about 3 times
Event warmup:

No warm up as such. An approx 1km walk to the swim start in a wet suit got us all fairly warm though.
Swim
  • 35m 47s
  • 1300 meters
  • 02m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

When the starter went (which was a guy playing the bagpipes) although I was pretty at the back everyone just took off. I had no chance of catching them. I felt weak in the arms but breathing was ok and I didn't feel cold. I gave up and wnt to the side of the river but the guy in the safety boat said I should give it a try and he'd stay with me. so, I did for a bit but stull felt slow so stopped again and he persuaded me to breaststroke for a bit then get to the middle of the river. He really talked me into it and i shall be forever grateful.
Was dragged out of the river last and escorted by safety guys and a medic to transition -I must have looked bad.
What would you do differently?:

Just put my head down and got on with it. My time/pace is the fasted in my life ever..although it was downstream - but I shouldn't of got so hung up on what everyone else was doing.
Transition 1
  • 06m 26s
Comments:

Quite a long walk to transition which was counted in the time I think. Really struggled to get suit off over feet. And I was the only one in transition at the time and there were a few people watching me = horrible. I found my bike easy enough though!
What would you do differently?:

Must practice taking off suit!
Bike
  • 1h 35m 52s
  • 24 miles
  • 15.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I really liked the bike course. I didn't have to get off to walk once. Looking at the results I was the slowest here as well, but to me I was flying and again, it has to be my fastest pace ever. Managed to eat chocolate bars and drink gatorade on bike.
What would you do differently?:

Pedal faster - I could have gone a bit harder in places
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Very pleased with my t2 - very competitive
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 16m 28s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 38s  min/km
Comments:

On the run I did run walking. My legs could have run more and my chest could have run more but my bladder wasn't having it. I could feel all the drink and stuff I'd eaten on the bike and at the end of the day I was a bit urine soaked. That's no fun for anyone ( past embarrassment by that point). However, my time is not far off my first 10k time (although that was up some monster hills) last year.
What would you do differently?:

Think about getting 2 piece tri suit, pelvic floor exercises
Post race
Warm down:

walking around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bladder problems, mental thoughts that i couldn't do the swim

Event comments:

After the race there was free entrance to Newby hall which is a lovely plus. A great triathlon in lovely surroundings. I would love to do it next year and be a bit faster
