Pre-race routine:

As usual. I don't have much of a routine. I try to get a little nutrition and coffee first thing in the morning. But I don't do a whole lot of warming up. Left the hotel with plenty of time to spare. No issues.
Event warmup:

A little swimming
Swim
  • 13m 16s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a little different. It was just all men as a wave and then all women. So it was a little crowded in the beginning. It thinned out eventually and I was able to get a nice cadence going on the back side.
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

Kind of a long transition. Running up hill from the lake to the parking lot. Maybe a little trouble with the wet suit
Bike
  • 40m 16s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.37 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm pretty happy with that as well after having done the course. The people who are getting over 20 on that course are monsters. Jenean and I drove the part of the course on Scotch Valley Road, and I was a little nervous, but I think the worst parts were still in the park. Turkey Valley Road is a bitch. I was worried about the course being wet, but it wasn't. I had my concerns about safety seeing as how part of this course actually went out onto Route 22. But that really wasn't an issue either. The traffic was very polite and gave us all room. I just can't get over those hills. Driving over them in the car, you think, those aren't so bad. But then you do it on a damn bike. They are brutal. We were using this as one of my time trials with the new power meter for Jason. I'm doing a couple this week as well to get a feel for my power zones to start training with power. I know on some of those hills, I put out 600 watts. What that means I have no idea.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

This was an easier / closer transition. Shook the legs out a little bit after those hills and get going.
Run
  • 22m 57s
  • 3.1 kms
  • 07m 24s  min/km
Comments:

It took about a mile for my legs to come back and I didn't feel like I was struggling as much as Lenape. I probably could have picked it up a little bit sooner. I mis calculated the finish line. Scoping out the course the night before, there was one hill leading up to the chute which I thought we would climb and I was saving a little bit for that, but it turns out we came out on an access road on top of it and the finish line was right there. Gotta know your course!
Post race
Warm down:

Sheetz food at the finish line. Love it!

Event comments:

I was a little nervous about this race, but it went off without a hitch and was a lot of fun. The course is tough, but safe and a nice challenge. Getting first in my age group makes everything all right!
