Pre-race routine:

race start was coincided with slack tide so race not scheduled to start intil 10 am so got to sleep in. Stayed at a friends house right in newburyport so no travel time. scrounched for breakfast and got OJ and pop tarts!! beggars cant be choosers!! LONG line for race numbers, RD needs to work on this as it delayed the race and caused some later waves to have issues with changing tide.
Met up with Isis54 and hung out in our wetsuits waiting in the rain for the race start.
Event warmup:

ne real warm up
Swim
  • 19m 17s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

actual time in and out of the water was 18:19 which is an average time for me even when I was swimming alot last year. I have not swam since webster over a month ago!! Apparantly my swim training has not effect on my performance.

Just took it easy, no issues, just do it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

t-1 was average for me. wetsuit came off better since I recalled MAX's advice to use hands like knives and spread and slide legs off.
Bike
  • 39m 53s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

felt overall strong on the bike. got into a good gang of bikers 'kicking it'
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

smooth transition, not fast but smooth.
Run
  • 28m 24s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

legs felt good off the bike but just didnt feel fast, so fell into a comfortable slowish pace. stomach got a little crampy, must have been the pop tarts coming back to haunt me!!

Got a big BT hug in the middle somewhere.

Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some grub and drink between the rain drops.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

run traing at this point. I am not running as much as I should, things have been a bit out of the ordinary here so I catch as catch can. swim was average so I am not sorry not to practice that much more. bike was good, maybe more work on the hills.

no negative thoughts crept in. overall the race was very fun, glad I went

Event comments:

race could use some improvements. This is their 2nd year and things need to be worked out. Not enough volunteeers and not enough organization at the registratiosn table. Some late riders got off course and that is never a good thing, indicates sloppy marking and direction, possible major safety problem. RUn course could have had mile markers. Awards for age groups were messy.

Overall, a good venue, good post race activities, and good timing,
