Swim
Comments: Mass start with about 60 guys. Really bunched up for the first 100. I got short of breath and swimming is always a challenge for me. Thought for a second I was going to have to tread water and rest, but I told myself just to slow down a bit. Found some more open water and got back into a decent pace and felt good. Sighted well I felt like and stayed on course. After the last turn may have gotten a little wide. I continue to improve on the swim. A short course like this is ideal because I cant get too far behind. What would you do differently?: No Transition 1
Comments: I felt like this was a really slow transition for me, but overall turned out not too bad. Fumbled with my shoes a bit. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions more Bike
Comments: Never road the course before. Had to talk my body into going the first loop. Really mentally draining. The first loop was low traffic. Picked up the second and third loop as more competitors made their way out. I was happy not to be passed by a single person and passed several. Not surprising considering most of the top performers were already on the bike ahead of me after my slower swim. I could definitely improve my speed and need to shave about 3-4 minutes to be more competitive. What would you do differently?: Drink water in a better spot, add aerobar water Transition 2
Comments: I knocked over a bike getting my bike it and thankfully a volunteer assisted in setting back up. I really struggled getting my bike in, my shoes on and my race belt. I think its odd that my T2 time is listed exactly the same as my T1 time. Coincidence?? What would you do differently?: Practice. Run without socks Run
Comments: I felt awful the first half of the first loop. Really thought I was going slow and having a hard time. Feeling the effects of standing all night and minimal sleep. However, I told myself to keep going hard and not give up. The second loop I felt really strong and starting eyeing people in front of me. I pushed myself to pass as many people as I could. I passed 1 guy about 300 yards from the finish and could tell he wanted to pass me back but I pulled away (he talked to me after the race). I sprinted the last 20 yards when I saw I needed to turn it on to break 1:15. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My first sub 20 in competition. Post race
Warm down: water, banana, orange, chex mix What limited your ability to perform faster: tiredness Event comments: great race, especially for the price. Definitely will do it again. Excellent beginner race as well. Last updated: 2014-07-14 12:00 AM

Had a wedding the night before so certainly not as rested as I'd have liked. Legs and body felt tired before hand. Drank my protein shake, ate a bagel and eggs which is standard for me. Mug of coffee during the 30 minute drive over.
Swam out to the first buoy and back. Stood around a lot and waited. Showed up too early I guess but I had never been to the Lake and had to check in. Check in was super fast.
