Swim
Comments: This was my first race outside of TX and having the opportunity to race against some of the top amateur athletes in the country was a real eye opener. I was very happy with my 1:37 given I normally swim closer to 1:50 in the pool but I still have a very long way to go to be able to keep up with the lead pack. I was happy with my sighting and given the number of people in my heat there were plenty of feet and bodies to help keep me on track. Overall I was happy with my swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit came off quickly and instead of clipping my shoes in my pedals beforehand like I did the day before, I decided to slip them on and run with them. The grass was soft so I'm happy I did this. What would you do differently?: Practice biking without socks. I still always use socks and although I don't think the extra 10 seconds would have made that much of a difference I know that if I want to continue to improve I should learn how to do this. Bike
Comments: According to the official results I averaged 20.8 mph. My goal was anything over 20 mph but that was for the Olympic course and although my legs were a little stiff from my Sat debacle, I felt I could and should have pushed harder on the bike. 5 KM of running flew by and I had more gas in the tank on the bike. What would you do differently?: Push harder on the hills. There were a few good climbs on the course. I stayed seated 95% of the race but I should have pushed harder. Transition 2
Comments: Got my feet out on top of my shoes and had a smooth run into transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was happy with this transition and ever happier to finally being able to run! Run
Comments: My goal for the Olympic was under 7:30 min/mile so I was very happy that I was able to run a 7:04 avg for the 5K. I've never been able to hold this kind of speed for more than 3 miles so I was happy with my result. Post race
Warm down: I sprinted into the finish line, took my medal and drank a Gatorade. I wasn't exhausted but felt relieved after everything that went down to have a finishers medal and to have finished a race. Event comments: I give this race a 10/10. Everything from the volunteers to the sponsors, food, really everything was top top notch. I can see why this is the premier race in the country and can't thank the city of Milwaukee and everyone that made this event possible enough. Hopefully I'll be fortunate to go back again next year and finish the Olympic race! Last updated: 2015-05-26 12:00 AM

I'd gone to Milwaukee to race the Olympic distance, but after my chain broke halfway through my bike ride I decided I couldn't go home without a finishers medal and signed up for the sprint distance race. This was my first sprint and although I was tired, still pissed off about what happened, I decided to give it my best.
I once again woke up at 5AM and had some oatmeal, a banana with almond butter and sipped on a Nuun electrolyte drink. Upon arrival to transition, I topped off my air, checked my bike chain and did some easy stretching and dynamic stretching. Thankfully I was the first wave so I went straight from transition to the start line.
