Pre-race routine:

I got up at 6:00, walked Zoe and ate a small bagel with peanut butter and shared a banana with Zoe. I left the house at about 7:00 -- a bit later than I planned. I arrived at the race site and was parked by 7:25 for an 8:00 race.
Event warmup:

I had already checked in so I walked to the start area, did a one mile warm up wit strides and some dynamic stuff and hit the port-o-loo before lining up to start.

Comments:

I signed up for the race because my training plan called for six miles with five miles at 10k pace. I knew that it would be a tough workout for me and I thought that running with people would force me to push myself. This was not the pace that I wanted to run but it's what I had in me today.

I knew the course would be hilly and it did not disappoint in that way. It wasn't mountain goat hilly or anything but something over 500 feet of elevation gain over the course (versus the super flat half marathon that I ran a few weeks ago with 150 feet of climbing, most of that over a bridge). I was surprised to discover that I was the second masters woman so I guess I was not the only one affected by the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I knew that if I wanted a fast 10k I should probably not do it during peak marathon training. This was a good way to get me to push myself.
Post race
Warm down:

The event had a kids zone and zillions of Chick-Fil-A cows (a whole herd!) and really a pretty decent turnout with 856 registered runners in th3 5k and 10k.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Marathon training

Event comments:

This was a well organized event with a fun vibe. If the weather had not been damp and overcast, it would have been super fun. As it was, it got cold after we stopped running.

The organizers had the 10k start and then started the 5k about 10 minutes later. The two routes were both out and back on the same neighborhood roads. This resulted in the 10k runners being blocked by the 5k walkers in the last 1.5 mile. I wish that the organizers could better convince the 5k walkers to stay to one side of the road.
