Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00 and got a shower. Loaded up the truck with our bikes (my two sisters and I) and headed off to the race. Got to the race and setup our transition areas, and just kind of walked around.
Event warmup:

Not much. I rode my bike a little in the parking lot and that's about it.
Swim
  • 10m 35s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Of course I was nervous before the swim. We were standing around the pool watching all the people who were faster than us swim and making it look easy. Before I knew it I was in the water tryingt to get my goggles ready because There was only 10 seconds between swimmers.

I started off way too fast. I think I passed 7 or 8 people in the first 150 meters. After that I hit a large bunch of people and pretty much could not pass anymore.

At the end of the swim I was done.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself. Train more. Next race will be much better.
Transition 1
  • 05m 36s
Comments:

There was a 1/4 mile run through a worm farm on the basketball court because it was raining between the swim building and the transition area. That didn't help my cause at all. I didn't take any time to collect myself in the transition area. I slapped my shoes on and helmet. Tried to get my shirt on
What would you do differently?:

Roll my shirt. That would save some time. Also train more.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 59s
  • 18 miles
  • 14.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to train more for this. I thought the bike was a killer. My legs were burning the entire time and I could not breathe.

This is all from only training 3 weeks for the race.
What would you do differently?:

Train
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

I thought my time was good. I was so tired at this point that I could not think at all.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Run
  • 44m 54s
  • 4 miles
  • 11m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Well what can I say...

I wish I could say I ran the whole thing and I did it with time to spare. That didn't happen. I ran/walked the whole time until the last mile and a half. I "ran" to the finish.

My legs hurt so bad I could barely move but I did. I kept putting one foot in front of the other and got to the end.

Need more training
What would you do differently?:

Train... Train... Train...
Post race
Warm down:

Tried not to throw up

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I only trained for 3 weeks and I actually didn't do anything prior to that.

Event comments:

I was totally exhausted and in pain, but I loved it. I can't wait to train more and do more races.

I'm signing up for the ThanksgivingDayRace and looking for more things to do. I'm also going to start looking at races for next year.
