Pre-race routine:

Got up way too early. Couldn't get back to sleep after I woke at 1:45 so I just rested in bed until 4:00 am.
Breakfast was 1/2 bagel and PB. One banana, one cup apple sauce. Cup of coffee about 1.5 hours before the start.
Event warmup:

We got lost on the way so I had no time to warmup. I was feaking out.
Swim
  • 31m
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went very well for an ocean swim. I did feel like I lost my technique compared to how I swim in a lake. I was using more power than technique.
I hadn't even touched water until June and I only swam twice a week so I feel great about how the swim went. Everyone says to not blow your load on the swim but in a big wave of people, it's hard to not be competitive.
What would you do differently?:

More warmup and concentrate on my technique.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

I was pretty slow in T1. I couldn't get my helmet snapped and I had a hardtime putting my socks on.
What would you do differently?:

I would sit to put my socks on and make sure my feet a fairly dry.
Bike
  • 2h 59m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I enjoyed the ride. The last 20 miles were tough but that's part of racing. When we drove the course I was freaked out over the hilly section but during the race it really didn't seem that bad. The last 10 miles I had to go to the bathroom so bad that it took away the enjoyment of completing the ride.
What would you do differently?:

I had a baggy cycling shirt. I would wear a form fitting Tri shirt to help cut the wind.
Transition 2
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

A little fast than the bike but still a bit slow. I also had to use the bathroom.
Run
  • 2h 00m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I never ran 13 miles before. 11 was my longest run so I was very satisfied by my finish. It's all about the day!!! How much pain can you run through.
The thought that kept running through my head was from Lance Armstrong.
"pain is only temporary, but failure lasts for ever!"
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe run fast with 4 miles to go.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing but smiling and limping.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only training for 16 weeks with very limited activity through the winter and spring.

Event comments:

I've only done one other race so I don't have much to go on.

Body weight for this race was 165.

Age Group: 25/???
Overall: 157/700+
Performance: Good
Suit: Full wetsuit
Course: First we had to walk about a mile to get to the start. Not bad seeing I needed some kind of warmup. Out 150 yards then turn right, Stay straight a full mile and then turn right again and head to the beach. I think at least one full minute of my swim time was running from the water to where the chip station was.

Course: The course was great. One very hilly section that was about 7 miles and then 7 miles down. There was a very strong headwind for the last 20 miles or so. My odometer had the course at 57 miles. Most of the course was on a two lane highway. Very fast in sections but long sustaind climbs in other sections

Course: VERY VERY VERY good course. THe only exception is the last 1/4 mile they had you running in beach sand. Is that crazy or what? Your body is aching from head to toe and all you want to do is cross the finish line. I went from a very good mood to a very bad mood during the beach run. I'm sure that caused a few injuries.
