Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

turn up, rack bike, get changed, collect timing chip etc
Event warmup:

nervous energy and an energy drink :)
Swim
  • 35m 17s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 21s / 100 meters
Comments:

First OWS ever so headed to the back for the start. turned out to be he middle as there was so many people in the wave. didn't panic and just went with it .... and loved the start! :)

I need to work on swimming in a straight line and sighting on the move. Had a problem with the low sun on the out lap.
What would you do differently?:

kick more in final quarter, swim straighter
Transition 1
  • 04m 14s
Comments:

was a little punch drunk from swim but did well. Took time at tricky points so as not to fall. Transition was HUGE and a long way. Jogged to bike and to exit
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 19m 27s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. was on my own for much of it so just got on with it and pushed comfortably hard for the whole thing. Over took lots of people in the final quarter.
What would you do differently?:

Drink much more! Need to change my drink as it was getting sickly to drink
Transition 2
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

didn't take feet out of shoes as wasn't feeling comfortable with the technique. Surface was really slippy to shoes.
bike kit off, socks on, shoes on, grabbed gel and legged it.
What would you do differently?:

practice leaving shoes on bike for dismount
Run
  • 1h 00m 14s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

got quad cramps after about a mile or so. took on fluids at every stop but had to stop and stretch a few times. Pace was rubbish
What would you do differently?:

more fluids beforehand, stretch more and practice more race length bricks
Post race
Warm down:

light jogging, stretches, 20 min leg massage and walked around show.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

fluid intake and leg cramps

Event comments:

good race overall especially as it was the first time I've done a few things (oly distance, OWS etc). Just missed out on the sub-3 hrs target but learnt a lot of lessons and had fun. Will be back next year to really kick some arse!!
