Overall Rank = 11/106
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/22
Pre-race routine:

Went to bed early, ate a healthy but hearty meal. Lots of sleep and liquids.
Event warmup:

0.5 mile run, approx. 700 swim (that felt like crap)
Swim
  • 04m 10s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 23s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Not sure - not feel like crap?
Transition 1
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Didn't feel like a very fast transition, but it was the fastest in my age group, so I guess I did something right. I suppose I'm just hell-bent on keeping my swimming lead most of the time :) Cause I know everyone's comin to get me!
Bike
  • 45m 28s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall, satisfactory ride, but a lot of improvement can be made on the bike. That's good!
What would you do differently?:

Be stronger :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Overall good, I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Not that it really cost me a lot of time, but it would help to turn on my footpod BEFORE the race starts. The wasted battery life is probably worth it so I don't have to make it part of my T2.
Run
  • 24m 23s
  • 3.13 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Great job of holding pace. I'm stunned at the pace I held dispite never having done a brick yet this year (slap on wrist). I really focused on a quick, short cadence right off the bat to make sure I didn't fall into a slow slump. It worked really well as I was able to get stronger and recover from the bike. I definitely went through quite a few waves of energy/no energy, though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, really.
Post race
Warm down:

Brisk walk, lots of water, and a baked potato... loaded with bacon and cheese - since when you do a triathlon, you can eat whatever you want :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Haven't gotten a full base in yet - especially for cycling. I should swim more so that I can overcome a crappy sluggish feeling and go faster regardless with less energy expenditure.

Event comments:

Honestly, for it being the 22nd year of this race's existence, both my boyfriend and I were surprised at how "thrown together" it seemed. In a few spots along the course there could DEFINITELY have been more volunteers to help guide the way. I guess overall it was a successful event, and that's really all you can ask. The only reason we started late was due to fog outside that would have limited visibility on the bike course, so that's no fault of any of the race organizers.

This swim just felt crappy. I felt cold until about the last 50m. I guess it was fine, timewise, but it just felt off. Oh well.

This is probably where I have the most room for improvement. I felt fairly good compared to where I was last year, so that's good. HR was similar to average - 180's most of the time. Overall good effort on the bike rather than my normal "going through the motions."
Wind: Little
Course: Man, what a hill on the turn around! It was great to go down (hit 31 mph) but a b*tch to go back up :) Roads near to the transition were MISERABLE. I can't imagine doing the whole course like that (what I heard was the case last year). The Loop roads were perfectly kept. Race marked fairly well, but you definitely had to pay attention. They probably could have used more people enthusiastically directing traffic. Slightly hilly, so gear changing was critical and frequent.

Holy cow... I didn't know I was capable of going this fast. Honestly.
Course: Nice winding paved trail that lead to a small road (I only saw one car). Shaded areas were nice, although it was perfect temperature and weather when I was on the run course.
