Lake Geneva Triathlon Series
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 54s
Overall Rank = 39/436
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/47
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:40 a.m. for a 6:30 start time. Ate two wheat english muffins, banana, chocolate milk.
Event warmup:

Stretched lower body, ran up beach and back. Got heart rate up a little bit but not much.
Swim
  • 08m 33s
  • 481 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt much better swimming this time. May be getting accustomed to the open water. The water was calm and felt pretty warm. Did not go all out as I wanted to maintain a comfortable pace for the entire course. Probably could have been faster.
What would you do differently?:

If course is the same, then I will go at a faster pace.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Crowded coming out of transition area with narrow track adjacent to cars on road. Not a great set-up but choices are limited. Kind of dangerous for everybody.
What would you do differently?:

Just get in and out with a bit more urgency.
Bike
  • 48m 5s
  • 17 miles
  • 21.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Got caught a couple of times coming off of turns facing hills in the wrong gear. That cost me momentum and energy. Otherwise, I was pretty fast on the flatter areas.
What would you do differently?:

Better knowledge of the course might help.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

None
What would you do differently?:

Could have moved with a little more urgency.
Run
  • 25m 56s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Just can't seem to sustain enough energy to run at a consistently faster pace. This is a tough run course because of the steep hills.
Post race
Warm down:

nothing

Event comments:

Too many levels of competition make it hard to organize. Transition area is not very secure. Transition area is crowded with people and difficult for all the athletes especially those doing longer segments coming in when others are finished and leaving. Bike in and out is adjacent to active road and none of the roads were closed down. Automobile traffic using the roads at the same time the race is going on was kind of dangerous.

Suit: Sleeveless long john
Course: rectangular shaped course. shortened from half-mile to roughly a quarter-mile. started along the beach in shallow water, then out a short distance to next buoy, turn right at buoy and return back towards start line and in to beach. turned out to be a fairly easy swim and could have been done at a faster pace.
