Pre-race routine:

Before I start, this was my first triathlon, and was very nervous yesterday while watching the Saturday race. Almost overslept today, so I had less time to be nervous. The only bad thing was that I left my water bottles at the house. (Lesson learned)
Event warmup:

Jogged a little and took some advice from a friend and swam a couple of laps in the pool This did help relax me and get me ready to swim.
Swim
  • 06m 7s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first tiathlon and therfore my first swim. The reason I have never done a triathlon before was because of the swim. I have been scared of the swimming for years, but decided it was time to get over it and take the plunge into triathlons. That being said the swim wasn't near as bad as I was expecting. I started off nice and relaxed, and I passed one person on the last length. No one passed me so everyone around me must have done a good job with their predicted swim times.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. With 4 months of swim time behind me, the swim went very well. I will start working on getting a little faster as I gain more experience and swim time
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Transition went well for me. I took my time and made sure I had everything I needed before I left. Since I had no water bottle, I had a cup of gatorade waiting for me after the swim and drank that before I left on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I had a bottle for my bike. Try to go a little faster once I get comfortable.
Bike
  • 38m 13s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 21.67 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course was very windy with a mix of head side and tail winds. I felt very strong on the bike and passed about 30-35 people. I started to feel a little weak towards the end, since I had nothing to drink, but overall it was a very good bike for me.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a drink
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Went well, just need to work on taking things off and putting shoes on when tired.
Run
  • 25m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where thing got really tough. I was very thirsty after the bike and I knew I was in trouble for the run. I stopped right out of transition and got 2 cups to drink. I tried to get them both down, but most ended up on me instead. I felt very lethargic on the run and passed a few people and got passed by a few others. The lack of drinking hurt me on the run, but overall it went OK. I was able to push it a little towards the end and finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully be a little better hydrated so I can run at a faster pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Went and drank till I felt a little better. Walked around and talked to a few people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Again, not being able to hydrate on the bike reallly hurt my run performance.

Event comments:

I am so happy to finish my first Triathlon. I can't wait for the next race.
