Swim
Comments: So I place myself close to the dock on the left of the start line. I position myself just behind the row of fast guys. The bouy line went from right to left so it was a straighter shot. Got moving, no punching or kicking today. Just swam straight to the first bouy and turned wide to misss the crowds and kept moving. After the second bouy I found some feet and got on them for a while. Saw the finish arch and kicked hard to get the blood in the legs. Looked at my watch and it was 12:55ish. I can't remember for sure. What an awesome swim. I couldn't believe it. My goal was right around 14 minutes. Last year I was 14:51. Huge improvement. Always suspect of the distance. I am not really that fast. I did move up from 248 out of the water last year to 160th this year, so I'll just say i had a pretty goood swim. Pulled the top of my wetsuit down as I ran up the beach and passsed a few guys and got to my T spot in a hurry. Time includes about a 45 second run up the peach. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I stayed relaxed and thought long and strong the whole time. Transition 1
Comments: My spot was perfect for this transition. Right next to the swim entrance and bike exit. Very smooth today. Second fastest in my agegroup. :32 seconds faster here than last year! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Got on the bike well and started getting into a rhythm. I wanted to find some certain people to pass and passed them all within the first 5 miles. Kept the pace comfortable at first until I got onto Jay road then pushed it a bit harder and got onto 36 and kept it steady. Had one guy in my agegroup catch and passs me here and I let him go. I knew He was going hard and I should be able to catch him on the back flat section. He was much smaller than I and he was a climber. I did catch him later and we played tag for a while and I beat him into T2. Wierd thing is he had a faster bike split. He was faster in the water and slower in transition. Huh? Played tag with another guy in my agegroup and we passed each other back and forth. I put the hammer down going down the reservoir road and beat both of them into T2. I knew one guy and he was a great runner so I wanted to put as much distance on him as I could. Both of them ended up 1st and 2nd in the ae group as they would pass me on the run. Damn. I was 14 seconds slower this year on the bike. What would you do differently?: Use my 404's in the back instead of the disk. I slide out on a turn and almost lost it. I was not even going that fast around it. Transition 2
Comments: Got to the line and did a flying dismount as I usually do and start running. Then right before the mat, I drop my bike. My gel packet flies off and I hear everyone say ooooo bummer. Yea, nice. I pick up the bike and gel packet and continue a bit faster to my spot. 23 seconds slower than last year. I had a longer run to my spot than last year and I dropped my bike, so I am not dissapointed with it. Even after all that I still had the fastest Transition in my agegroup here! Yea. What would you do differently?: Not drop my bike. Run
Comments: Pretty good run.. I was 5 seconds slower than last year. Started running easy but with quick feet. Caught some guys and then had the 1st place guy go flying by me right at the top of the hill. I told him nice job! Kept catching a few guys and approached the lead females. Hey that's Susan Williams! I ended up 40 seconds behind her. I actually had a better bike and run than she did. But she can swim! So I kept running and fell at the turn around. Nice again. Got up and kept moving. I just needed to hold people off here so tried to push harder but that was it. Had the 2nd place guy in my age group pass me at mile 2. He was flying. Never caught 3,4,. I was 15 seconds behind number 4. So I looked back with about 300 meters togo and hoped noone was there. And there wasn't. I finished strong and was happy with my time. I was 1:15 faster than last year and was fifth. Last year I was 3rd place. Faster people out there each year! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I trained well and did the best I could. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and taiked to friends. Drank some beers, (free fro Avery Brewery) and ate lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. i guess, don't drop your bike or fall on the run. Event comments: Great to see all the BT'ers out there. Everyone raced well. Thanks to Shannon for volunteering. good luck in CDA Shannon. Just a good day! Last updated: 2007-02-01 12:00 AM

Went to bed at a decent hour and had a great night sleep. Got up at 3:20. My wife had to be up there early to register and pick up her packet. So we got a great parking space and Transition spots as well. Ate a waffle with Peanut Butter on it, a protein shake and apple sauce. Some coffee and water on the way up to Boulder. Got in line for transition and got body marked and found my spot right on the end of the first row. Agegroup rows were laid out.
Short bike ride with Adam and Pete and Kerri. Then some dynamic stretching with Michele and Liz and a short run. Then into the water before the start for a quick 100 or 2.
