Swim
Comments: Felt so much more confident in the water this time. Goggles were really good, never got water in there, and they didn't fog up. It was a little crowded at points, but I knew to expect that, and was ok with it, especially since I had done Accenture last year. It was SOOO much easier than that race! I started in the middle of the pack, to the left. Think the spot I got was good. What would you do differently?: Just keep practicing in the lake to build confidence. Next year, you don't need a wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: My transition was slow which annoyed me. Had crap all over my feet, sand, little rocks that were hard to get off, so I think that took awhile. I had everything laid out really good but I just took a little longer because of the feet and it was a little far from the end of the swim, and I didn't want to run full speed and hurt my stomach. What would you do differently?: Remember to move my ponytail down to the nape of my neck. I forgot to do this, and almost put my helmet on without doing it. I should do it as soon as I get out of the water. Bike
Comments: Keep practicing, on the hills if you need to. Even though there were no hills in this race, think all the training in Barrington with Jen really helped. What would you do differently?: See below... Transition 2
Comments: Need to practice getting out of bike shoes. Thought I would try to do it with just getting out of the shoes, leaving them clipped to bike, but when I took the right foot out, the pedal was still moving and the right side shoe hit the pavement, went flying, and I had to clip out of the left side, lay my bike down, and run to go get my other shoe. It didn't hurt or anything, just hurt my pride....really embarrassing!! What would you do differently?: Practice the shoes/pedals. Also need to get those zip laces or whatever for my running shoes. It took awhile to get shoes on correctly. Run
Comments: Right side of neck hurt a little in run-which could be because I was down in aero bars for so long on bike. Went away, wasn't too bothersome. The last 1/2 mile or so of the run, my side pain completely came on, and was ABSOLUTELY killing me!! I just can't see how that can be digested related. I mean, I was completely bent over and sounded like I was breathing like a pregnant woman would giving birth, really short breaths, wasn't getting any air, because everytime I inhaled, it was such a terrible stabbing pain that side. What would you do differently?: Same as always, figure out what the hell is causing that pain on my side. Post race
Warm down: 15 MINUTES FASTER THAN MY LAST RACE (ACCENTURE)! WOO HOO!! What limited your ability to perform faster: On the swim-just need to keep building confidence, and not let it "go to my head". Bike-with practice, and a better bike, should get faster. This was my first race in the shoes/cleats, so with practice I know this will get easier. And the run, same old, same old. Need to figure out what on earth could be causing that pain. Going to look into a new doctor. Event comments: I really enjoyed doing this race and really enjoyed meeting the ladies (and couple of gentelmen) from BT at the expo. Felt like such a loner at Accenture last year, so having people there you actually knew was great! Will definately do this race again next year! Also, a note for next year, the expo is outside!! It was raining on Saturday, so that was interesting! Also, a huge thanks to our BT Men jockstrappers...it was nice to have them out there cheering for us!! McFuzz...thanks for taking pictures!! Got up at 4:15 at Tom and Gail's. Had my banana and tablespoon (large) full of peanut butter. Also had a little gatorade on the way to the race.
Got the wetsuit on and did some practicing before the race started. Goggles were good, nice and tight and no water coming in and no fogging up. Felt good in the water.
Stomach felt a little upset, so I think it would be a good idea to bring rolaids to the next race, in case that happens again. Also, I was cold waiting for my heat to start, so next time, maybe have a long sleeve shirt to put on, and then just leave by the swim.
