Swim
Comments: Wow!lots of contact on this swim. It was pretty crowded up to the first turn, thinned out a little on the backend and then we we caught up with stragglers from the previous wave had to pick through again. I started in Wave 7 (there were at least 17 waves!) Also, this was a true half mile as opposed to last year when it was a bit short. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Maybe try to get more out in front at the start or out to the side. It was just mayhem for most of the swim. Transition 1
Comments: This transition includes a hefty run to TA. I think I was pretty quick, but would have liked to see less time. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Prolly' nothin' Bike
Comments: Anyone in my sights on the bike I passed. Rode the bat mobile (tri bike). Saw very few of these in the race. Pretty much said on your left the whole way round. What would you do differently?: Nothing. You have to be careful in this race and on this course. So many first timers. Lots of hybrid and mountain bikes and bit of traffic and congestion at the end where you have runners and bikes in two directions. Its really pretty insane:o Transition 2
Comments: Pretty quick transition. Didn't waste much time. Run
Comments: Felt pretty good on the run. Kept a good pace and was on track to beat last years time. Had a pretty scary experience though that cost me prob 15-20 seconds. Run course was squeezed into the shoulder of the road with runners coming and going. Bikers were in the right lane on the road coming in. I see a gal in our group running out as I am heading in to finish. She shouts out to her friend on the bike heading in (going same direction as me) I turn slightly to see who running teamate is shouting to. The biker loses control of her bike and fishtaling in the run lane coming right at me. Holy carp!! I try to get out of her way looking her right in the eye like "oh my god stay upright". The bike jack knifes and down she goes. Sh*t!! I run back and tend to her — see if she is okay. She sits up and says she is — i want to be sure so i make here sit for a second. She gets back on the bike. I lose 10-20 seconds on my run. oh well. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: water, hugs, cheer for other teammates What limited your ability to perform faster: head cold and mom stuff Event comments: Love this race. But, you have to go into it knowing that its more about finishing and supporting your fellow women than it is about posting your best time. This survivor wave includes so many very young women. These gals are such an inspiration to me. Last updated: 2007-05-21 12:00 AM

Arrived in Auburn MA around 11:30 or so. Found the expo and packet pickup at the local highschool. Huge clusterf*ck. Did the expo thing and met up with our team to get pumped up with Sally Edwards! Team pic, a few words from the coaches. Everyone excited and ready to go in the morning. This part was fun! Had an awesome dinner later in Worchester—nice Italian place compliments of the coaches as thank you for team leader help. Really excellent meal! And fun time riding over and back together.
Up at 4a.m. after a shitty night's sleep in a room that smelled like an ashtray. Headcold making me feel sh*tty. Around 8:45 Sat. night got call from my husband from ER. My son had broken his ankle—two places—taking more x-rays—spending the night—nightynight! NOT!! So not so restful night in the ashtray worrying about all of that and guilty for not being there. Woke up feeling like I'd not really slept much and smelling like a 2pak-a-day habit.
Ate a bagel with PB. Got some coffee downstairs. Lots of the gals were at the continental breakfast and there was a definite buzz about the place. This made me feel better and get focused on the morning's activities.
Left astray hotel and headed to Webster Lake a little after 5. Found parking just in time before it got crazy. Pumped up tires, gathered transiton bag and headed to the park to set up. Met up with fellow teamleaders and team members. Talk some smack with my fellow age-groupers (this always makes me feel better ;) )
Wandered around, peed in the woods, headed down to the lake for a quick warm up in the lake. Talked with lots of people I knew, met some I didn't know. Great commraderie all around.
A few strokes in the lake to remind myself how swimming without the wetsuit was gonna be.
