Pre-race routine:

At first I was doing the bike part of the relay, then I wasn't doing the race at all, then at the last minute I decided to do the whole thing, so when I got home from work I packed up my stuff and headed down to Marlborough. Kalahari bar and water on the way.
Event warmup:

Hung out and talked with BT people, checked out Kelly's hot new bike, made fun of Seth for being dressed like it was winter, ate a few Shot Blocks.
Swim
  • 10m 3s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

I opted not to wear a wetsuit because: 1. It doesn't make me any faster (it actually makes me slower) 2. I figured I would save a minute in transition if I didn't wear it 3. The water is actually very pleasant right now. My goal was to go out and swim as hard as I could and see what happened. I started towards the back and just tried to keep moving forward. After Mooseman and swimming with my BT friends, it was weird to actually be swimming near other people ;)! My time doesn't really reflect how hard I tried on this swim, but oh well. Story of my life.
What would you do differently?:

This is as good as it gets right now.
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

No wetsuit=fast T1. Didn't bother putting my socks on before my bike shoes. Worked out just fine.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 36m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I went out hard because I wanted to kill this course! Took a mile or 2 to find my legs, and unfortunately the hardest hills were in those first miles ;). But overall it was good, and I like that compact crank on the hills! Passed a bunch of people on the climbs and bombed down the descents. Drank half a bottle of diluted Gatorade.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing,
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was included in my run time, but it probably took me about a minute to put my socks and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 28m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I was most pleased with this part of the race. My legs felt great right off the bike and I was able to maintain a good, strong pace. Passed a few skinny men, which always feels nice ;). This was the first time I have run this entire course (without a pacer) and didn't walk at all. I am happy with the time, especially since it includes T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Changed into warm clothes and hit Harry's!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sucking at swimming

Event comments:

This is just a local Thursday night $15 race- no frills, no awards, but nicely run every year.
