Pre-race routine:

Did the usual. Woke up early as hell and started getting stuff together. Meg looked at the weather and decided to bag it. I almost did too. Got bikes together for all conditions.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile and sat in truck with the heat on high

Comments:

Was really conservative on the road. Opened it up a bit on the dirt and passed alot of people. Couldn't make up the time I lost. I finished without busting my ass (for now that is).
What would you do differently?:

Not be a pansy on the road.
Transition 1

Comments:

About average wasn't trying to motor or anything. Second fastest transition of the race right after my homeboy Dime.
What would you do differently?:

Beat Dime just for bragging rights

Comments:

Was doing great. Had my sights on the 3rd place and was slowly reeling him in. Not dramatically, but at the halfway point I knew I could get him. I started getting a little risky and went into a right hander and felt the wheels go. Next thing I know I'm doing a Moto GP slide across the ice covered pavement. I got up and couldn't get my chain back on. I tried just shifting the derailleur up and it wouldn't take, shifted down and back up again and it wasn't grabbing enough chain. So I had to dismount and do it by hand. I lost some serious time here (not to mention motivation and a place). After the crash it was hard for me to get going again. I was trying to fight the urge to just forget and soft pedal the whole way back.
What would you do differently?:

Stay upright!

Warm down:

Does limping back to my truck count as a warm down?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor decision making

Event comments:

In retrospect I'm happy with the race. Despite the crappy bits it was great getting to hang out with everyone. I had a lot of fun. I've got a swollen knee, hip, and some mild shoulder pain. But It's not as bad as it looks.
