Swim
Comments: Swim was shorter than anticipated. I don't swim that fast. It was strange having Sally Edwards pump everyone up before we hit the water. What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive, although I don't think this particular event was the place to do that. Transition 1
Comments: I was a little disorganized coming out of the water and to transition. Had difficulty getting wet suit off my feet. In my defense there was a quarter mile jog from the beach to my bike. What would you do differently?: I would have gone thru the transistion in my head, played it out, instead of staring at my stuff saying, um, I do what now? Bike
Comments: I love the bike, my favorite part of the race. However, I do remember at least one gear change going into part of the hill that didn't go well, I think I could have pushed harder. I also need to figure out the nutrition/hydration thing, again, I failed to hydrate and eat. I have no problem off the bike doing this stuff, just never remember to while I'm on the bike... What would you do differently?: DRINK - EAT - TRAIN ON THE HILLS HARDER! Transition 2
Comments: I need to practice racking and riding with shoe off. Forgot my race number and belt (with Sharkies in pouch) What would you do differently?: Rack quicker...remember number, drink water, grab my nutrition! Run
Comments: Thank goodness for the wonderful woman with the garden hose. I was really feeling hot and done in. I think if I had eaten my Sharkies, I would have had more energy to put into the run. My legs didn't loosen up until well after the turn around point, nearly 2 miles in! What would you do differently?: Eat...push Post race
Warm down: Water...and I immediately had chills and the shakes, so I know I had exhausted my glycogen stores. Thank god for my hubby, he steered me to some sugar and made me eat, and even had a coat to warm up. Only my husband would be prepared with a coat when it was 80 degrees. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition Event comments: Initially on getting to the race course there were only two body markers for 2500 plus women that showed up. They eventually got more, but it was a little frustrating at first. I think I would have had even more portalets. Can you ever have enough? I really believe they should have a "things you really should know" for all the first timers - this event is HUGE for first timers, looked like 90% were newbies, and it was frustrating to see people stop in the middle of the road, (you ARE going to get hit in the middle of the road) see women riding the yellow line, and not moving over when you shouted, on you're left. For safety reasons, I think this would have been important. It wasn't a closed course. There were lots of volunteers on the courses, which was impressive. Swim angels for the swim course! I had heard bad things about parking at Danskin events, but that was not the case here, parking was okay. After the event, I was thrilled to have watermelon as a food choice, not so much the green bananas...what is with green bananas at events? Would I do it again? If I had a girlfriend who was doing her first event, yes. I think it would be immense fun to get a group of girls to do it together. This event was about girl power, and that's what it delivered. Race packet pickup was mandatory for Saturday, day prior to race. We drove down, picked up packet and got to hotel right on schedule. Did the usual, look for Wal-Mart as I had forgotten stuff. sigh. Had light dinner, and back to hotel, in bed by 9:30, tough getting to sleep. Up at 4:30, thunder, lightning and torrential rain.
None. We weren't allowed in water.
Race start was delayed due to "Safety Concerns" - I think that means the ambulance had a call to go on just before the start so we had to wait for them to come back, but don't quote me!
