Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:30am, got ready, picked up a couple friends who were racing and we drove up to the race.
Event warmup:

Jogged an easy 2km with a couple quick bursts of speed to get my legs going and had a good stretch after.

Comments:

Had a plan to take it out easy and slowly build every km. Ran the first few km's pretty easy and the effort felt very simple, breathing was good and form felt really good. Started picking up the effort and moving up the field quite well, hit 10km in 44:52 and decided to really ramp up the effort for the last half of the race. My km times kept coming down, and I had an awesome stretch where I ran 4:02, 3:52, 3:57 and 3:59 from 13km through 16km, I went through the second 10km in a time of 41:02 which was a bit of a shock as my previous best 10km time was 41:06. I cracked the line in a time of 1:30:22, which is a PB by 4mins and 37secs. Unreal. I felt awesome running today, breathing was easy, form was good, I didn't get passed once, this was a great way to start off the season.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I wasn't expecting to run as well as I did so I wouldn't change a thing.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged an easy 2km until I saw my friends, and then I ran back with them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hmmm, maybe some speed training would help, but I am very happy with this race. Could have probably pushed harder earlier as well, first few km's were quite slow.
