Total Time = 3h 32m 54s
Overall Rank = 282/451
Age Group = Clydesdale <39
Age Group Rank = 6/9
Pre-race routine:

Age Group 30-34 - I would have finished 23rd out of 29 but I decided to enter the Clydesdale division to see how I would fare against people of comparable size.

Ate conservatively, protein, fruits, and a small bowl of cereal.
Event warmup:

Short swim, no warm up.
Swim
  • 33m 41s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tough start but I eventually settled into a rhythm as this was my first olympic distance. I stayed way left to the outside and swam a longer distance and didn't draft...but I felt more comfortable out there by myself.
What would you do differently?:

Continue training and get into my old swim team form so I can start quick and get out in front of the masses so I can swim the course more directly...reducing my distance...thereby reducing my time.
Transition 1
  • 04m 58s
Comments:

I'm not yet focused on improving transitions and really took my time...walking briskly from the lake to the bike and saying hi to my kids while talking a bit with my wife. Quite frankly, seeing the poor fella whom got pulled out of the water and eventually died as you exited the water was a downer...such a sad tragedy.
What would you do differently?:

Over time, I'll focus on improving my transitions...at this point in my triathlon life...it's not important to me.
Bike
  • 1h 33m 4s
  • 28 miles
  • 18.05 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a blast on the bike going upwards of 35mph.
What would you do differently?:

Need more muscle memory...felt like crap on the run after biking 28 miles.
Transition 2
  • 03m 47s
Comments:

It was getting hot and heatstroke/dehydration was something to consider in general so I believe I was smart to take my time, drink some fluids, ate a gel pack, and then got going.
What would you do differently?:

More training will overcome the transitions...no worries.
Run
  • 1h 17m 24s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

overheated. stopped at every water station to cool off. Hottest race day in Pacific Crest history...ouch.
What would you do differently?:

train more, get leaner, move faster so I can finish the race while it's still cool.

Event comments:

Had a great time, made a vacation out of the race events.
