Age Group Rank = 4/10
Pre-race routine:

Nothing really? Walked over to race area from 2nd street and stretched a bit. Tried to figure out how the whole thing worked out. Drank a bunch of water the day before
Event warmup:

Stretching.
Swim
  • 17m 16s
  • 1056 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Took me by surprise at the start. I was still fixing my goggles. Took forever to get past all the slower swimmers and kept getting sandwiched between 2 guys.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front of the pack so I can get a fast start instead of weaving in and out. Make a straighter line towards the buoys. Swim harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Bike
  • 41m 54s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 20.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I have NEVER biked that hard in my life. It was flat and awesome to go that fast. I was by myself most of the way so I was able to keep myself motivated by yelling at myself to keep going occasionally. I pushed this harder then anything -- probably because its new to me.
What would you do differently?:

Train. Maybe get those handles that are in the middle of the regular handle bars to be able to lean further forward.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Run
  • 16m 50s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 06m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt funny aftewards. First time running after biking. Flat course. Wasn't passed by anyone except for a gentleman who I passed on my 2nd lap and he passed me going into the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder?
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch a bit, walk around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first one, so I was nervous about not having enough to finish. I could have pushed harder on the swim and the run.

Event comments:

This was my first triathlon. In fact I just bought a bike the day before. I hadn't ridden a bike in 6 years or a road bike -- EVER, until the day before where I took it out for a 1 mile test run and a 6 mile light ride. I haven't run or swam since February either. It was a last minute thing registering the afternoon of the day before. All I can say is I'm hooked and can only imagine what I will be able to do with a bit of training.

I was hoping to hit a 1:30 and came in well under my goal by over 11 minutes! I think with some training I have the ability to drop my time down the 1:12 range or faster. This gives me a starting point and with no training whatsoever, saying I was pleased with the results...would be an understatement.
