Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 am on 3 hours of sleep, thanks to Alabama-Clemson game that night. Drove an hour 1/2 down to Callaway Gardens.
Event warmup:

None really. Set up transition, stretched, maybe a 100m swim.
Swim
  • 13m 24s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the longest swim I have done, so I guess I should be satisfied that I made it through in a decent time. I really have to work out getting out fast the first couple hundred meters and staying calm.
What would you do differently?:

Keep workin.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Decent T1 for me
What would you do differently?:

Get better at getting feet in shoes and getting up to speed.
Bike
  • 55m 4s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Probably went too hard on the bike, never got into a comfortable pace. I'm sure my heart rate would have a story to tell...
What would you do differently?:

Get more fit on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

T2 was sloppy. They didnt have a lane to run with your bike so everyone literally had to pick up their bike and run with it over some medians. No me gusta....
What would you do differently?:

Start bitching about the sloppy organization beforehand while I piddle around for 2 hours before the race.
Run
  • 31m 47s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 06m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Can't argue with my run. This was the longest race I have done and my pace is rapidly improving. Very satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working. Watch my fluid intake on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Super hot and humid, spaced out for about an hour and tried to cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Is this where I get to make excuses? Hmm let's see....this is still my rookie season, I was sick the entire week before race week, and I got 3 hours of sleep the night before.

All that aside, I probably should just keep training and put in the work. That is how I will perform faster.

Event comments:

My first "Olympic" distance, was a good preview for how hard I need to focus for Tugaloo. Can't say that I lollygagged, pretty much left it all out there on the course.
