Total Time = 1h 50m 20s
Overall Rank = 499/1086
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 51/89
Pre-race routine:

Banana, oatmeal, power bar, protein drink, lots of water
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching
Swim
  • 24m 20s
  • 984 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Best competitive swim ever. Felt comfortable, very little anxiety. Exited the water with a lot of energy left over
What would you do differently?:

Stroke still needs some work!
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

Need to learn to put on shoes while they are already clipped into pedals
What would you do differently?:

Transitions need work... practice, practice, practice
Bike
  • 54m 19s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 16.47 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my first competitive race on my new bike (a Felt B2 that I bought used on eBay). Should have done more road riding, rather than so much gym-biking. The hills were tough and I had difficulty with gear changes going up the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Need to train more on hills
Transition 2
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

I need to practice transitions, no question about it. Legs were very cramped going into the run. Took quite a while to get my legs under me
What would you do differently?:

More bricks. More transition practice.
Run
  • 28m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to slow to a walk twice. The bike really killed me and never felt like I got my legs back. I was really feeling the heat (mid 80's). I was surprised my time wasn't worse. AT the midway point, they handed out goo-packs. I felt that if I tried to eat one, I'd puke. Just kept drinking a little water and pouring the rest on my head.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks. More fluids.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around... drinking plenty of water. Ate a couple bananas and chocolate chip cookies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall, I thought I had a good race, and was pleasantly surprised with my time. But I felt I really struggled on the run and didn't finish as strong as I would have liked.

Event comments:

The Philly Tri is an absolutely awesome event. Very well organized, beautiful scenery and the volunteers are all great. This was easily my favorite triathlon in 2008 and I'll be back in 2009... this time I'll be doing the Olympic distance.
