Pre-race routine:

Picked up race bag--they put the wrong size shirts in the bags and told us to sort it out later. Set up my transition and went into the Rec Center with Julie. She was relieved to see that the people in the early heats were swimming slowly and doing all sorts of things to get across the pool (she'll be racing in May).
Event warmup:

A few laps in the Dive pool.
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was easy. My lane partner talked about the possibility of passing me, but she never even caught up to me and by the time I was done she had slipped further behind. No anxiety, no problems whatsoever on the swim. It was enjoyable.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, great swim!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

It was really cold, and they didn't publish T1 times. Ran out of the building and threw on a jacket, socks, shoes, cap, helmet, gloves.
What would you do differently?:

Wish I could move faster, but GEESH it was cold.
Bike
  • 49m 19s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I haven't been on the bike that much so I am not surprised I was so slow. Did I mention it was COLD?
What would you do differently?:

Bike more, of course.
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Still cold.
What would you do differently?:

Just do this more.
Run
  • 29m 16s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt like 2 numb, stiff ice blocks. Surprising I ran as fast as I did considering I had been injured and not really running. Plus I've gained a few pounds, ugh. Still, I warmed up after a while and finished strong.
What would you do differently?:

Lose 8 pounds, run healthy.
Post race
Warm down:

Went straight for the pecan sticky bun and WARM SHOWER at the rec center. Beautiful! Julie and I had coffee at the Beanery afterward, that was most excellent too.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I could train more.

Event comments:

This is a fun, well-run race that is great for beginners and experienced athletes. The only issues I had were: shirt size problem (resolved) and the people who are on the run course keeping track of how many times you go around the block (because it is a loop) haven't kept accurate track of me the last two years. Thankfully it didn't affect my race results.
