Pre-race routine:

Up around 5:00AM. Had a Cliff Bar,Gatorade, and a pop tart and was ready to roll. Met up with Dale in the hotel lobby and headed to the race site.
Event warmup:

Swam 200 yards and it felt great. Then, had to wait about an hour to actually race. Elites raced first and then it was a long line, based on swim times, to get in the pool. Swimmers dropped in every 10 secs. Snake style swim.

Comments:

Not a bad swim for me. Got out of the pool in 7:50 and then 250 yard run to trans area where the timing mat was, put me at 9:19. Think i was getting dehydrated waiting to swim though.
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing. I was pleased with this swim, however. I will bring a water bottle in with me next year.
Transition 1

Comments:

Nice and easy, didnt rush. I like to double check I haven't forgotten anything and make the next leg miserable.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get more agressive at trans I spose. It was only a sprint anyways.
Bike

Comments:

2 loop course. Pushed a decent pace on the bike but didn't blow myself up so I'd have a good run. There was a couple decent hills and a couple nice downhills. I really enjoyed the bike course. Think I may have drank too much since I was feeling very thirsty from the pool wait.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training! Bout it.
Transition 2

Comments:

Stomach felt kinda funky at the start since I chugged my whole bottle of gatorade on the bike, due to thirst from pool wait. After a mile or so it straightened out. Ran a nice, hard pace and when I hit the last 1/4 mile I kicked to the finish. Maybe had a little too much energy left to kick so hard at the end. Dunno.
What would you do differently?:

Really good run for me. Maybe could have given a little more the first 2 miles, but I'm not gonna complain.
Post race
Warm down:

My wife and 2 daughters were there as well as my sister-in-law, who came down from Kirksville. Hung out with them and waited for Dale to finish. Grats Dale! Snagged some Shakespeare's pizza and a 7 UP and watched more folks finish.

Event comments:

Great race, great time!
