  • Comments: What an experience for my first IM! A tough course...tough conditions...an amazing finish. Not sure what the future holds for me but I WILL not be a "one and done" Ironman. Probably not feasible for me to do an Ironman distance race every year with my kids as young as they are right now. Thinking I will be on the every other year plan if my wife will allow it. Looking at possibly IM Louisville, Wisconsin, or Chattanooga in 2016!

  • Comments: This race would NOT have been as fun as it was had it not been for my TL family both racers and athletic supporters. Hehe that joke never gets old. Seeing everyone out on course was truly motivation enough to get my klunky and broken ass to the finish line.

  • Comments: It wasn't perfect conditions, and I didn't get my dream time, but I still had an almost 20 minute PR, and finally got to RUN in an Ironman. I'm incredibly proud of this performance, and to be out there with so many teammates was just awesome. Three in a row and this was definitely my favorite experience at Ironman Lake Placid.

  • Comments: The race itself ended up being an interesting day weather wise and surprisingly not as difficult as I had expected, although I guess that’s what happens with proper training, race planning, and nutrition in place :) Overall it was a great first Ironman experience and I loved the race even with the rainy weather… now it’s time to decide what to do next – I think I may have caught the Ironman bug and plan to do Lake Placid again in 2016 (my mom and little sister have agreed to join me!) Who knows I may do another next year in 2015… just have to figure out which one since Lake Placid is now sold out.

  • Comments: the check-in was pretty quick, although, not to miss a merchandizing opportunity, you could not get your swag bag at check in, you had to go down to the IM store, and go fully into the tents to get your backpack lest you forget to buy IM stuff while you are at it. on the other hand, in lieu of the banquet, we all received a $25 gift certificate to use at pretty much any area restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised and happy to receive this. as an aside, as we were standing in line, there were some Kiwis behind me, then somehow in front of me, but from the line, we could see out a window overlooking the restaurants. one restaurant said, "wood fired pizza" they misread it and thought it said 'wood fried pizza', then proceeded to make fun of fat Americans and deep frying everything including pizza. I wondered when one of them would realize they misread - they didn't. I do wish they would do a better job of getting good expo vendors. it was pretty lame with minimal vendors.

  • Comments: This is a fantastic race with great scenery and more energetic volunteers than you can shake a powerbar at. If long course if for you, I highly recommend it. And having a shitty personal day, I got to race with some people who were really giving it their all to be an Ironman. Very inspirational.

  • Comments: great event. they were in a no win situation with the storms. they could have postponed but that would have been a different set of problems. I wish the results on IM's site showed full swim and t1.

  • Comments: It was an absolutely stellar race. The venue had a palpable excitement about it from the moment we got out of the car. The area is beautiful, the people were nice and polite, everywhere I went I felt welcomed and comfortable. The check-in was well organized, the welcome dinner was worth it (although the food was marginal at best), etc. Two days after the race I walked down to the beach and marveled at how 2500 people had been there without leaving any sign of their presence. I was looking at this as a sort of reboot. ChesapeakeMan 2010 tore me up good, mentally and physically. I was so beat down that it took me about two months to be able to run more than two miles, and I gave up endurance training for several months in favor of strength training. Then I just couldn't force myself to keep going with either. Finally, July 2012, I saw registration for IMLP was opened, and I jumped on it. And even with that registration confirmed, I couldn't force myself to stay training. Until January,

  • Comments: Greatest event I have done by far. Volunteers and fans were awesome. I cant imagine doing IM again, after such a special experience. Having Laura and the kids there was incredibly special and inspirational. Dave and Mar were super people and so supportive. Later that night, I was able to have a beer and relax - it was the best feeling ever (outside of wedding and kids). I hope I never forget my feelings circling the oval and that night in the chair reminiscing with my favorite people in the world.

  • Comments: Great race! The hills aren't as bad as people make them out to be. I did all my training on Cape Cod, which might be hillier than people think but is still a far cry from the Adirondacks and I had no trouble with the hills. I'm glad I was expecting it to be bad so that I could be pleasantly surprised though! If you want a finisher jacket get there before 7am to stand in line! They started selling them at 7am and we showed up at about 7:20 and by the time we got in they only had men's smalls and women's larges left. Bummer. Oh well.

  • Comments: Race was a great experience but the last two impressions were horrible. Course and volunteers were top notch and it was very cool. Great lake to swim in and an awesome bike and run course and fans were great.

  • Comments: I've done a lot of races, and I'm not sure if this is my favorite, but the volunteers were definitely the best. HANDS DOWN. The vibe around town was electric all weekend, and WTC did a very good job keeping everything smooth. I felt like the actual race logistics were much better than IMFL. I will say that I loved the town of Lake Placed, but it kind of felt "too small" to handle the crowd. It was crowded, and everything was VERY expensive. Minor complaint, for sure.

  • Comments: The swim start was a failure for the front of the pack. From what I can tell visiting with people from the middle and back of the pack, it was really rough for everyone on loop two and for many people on the second half of loop one (as the FOP caught up). The volunteers at IMLP are simply overwhelming with their kindness and generosity. It is humbling to be offered so much -- especially when one is nearly helpless -- by a smiling, kind friend. The venue is inspiring. From an effervescent lake to the glory of the High Gorge and Whiteface to the sylvan beauty of Riverside Road, I don't know why anyone would want to race elsewhere -- ever. I simply cannot say enough good things -- but I will try to say more of them at my blog. www.radicalimmersion.wordpress.com. I followed my raceplan and beat the goal time by 3+ minutes. I set a PR at this race/distance by 1 hour, 12 minutes and 10 seconds. It was simply amazing.

  • Comments: The volunteers and crowds, plus the breath-taking scenery really made this a spectacular event. Everything was very well organized. I recommend booking your hotel the same day you sign up for the race. If you're like me and hate swarms of people try looking in Wilmington. My husband and I stayed at Wilkommen Hof (11 miles from town) - it's right on the bike race course and there are good restaurants nearby.

  • Comments: IMLP 2014 sold out by 9pm on the day after. I'm going to stick to 70.3s for a while, but it was good to check this off the bucket list. Very organized and the swim start was as good as could be expected. Check out the coach patrick youtube videos 1-5 on the course overview. that was helpful for planning. visit in June to scout the course and do Wilmington Whiteface 100km. Rent in Jay, it is quieter out there.
