  • Comments: Midwest Sports events can take alot bad critism but this was an excellant race. Good course and AWESOME support. Amazing value for money too. It cost me $85. Most Half Iron's are 200-250 and up. I got a finishers medal too. For the money you can not go wrong. It busy but not too busy. I always had someone near me on the bike. The post race food was good too. The food and water stations on the course excellant.

  • Comments: Although I didn't hit the 5:10 ultimate goal, I PRd by 30 minutes. This is thanks mostly to a better swim stroke and stronger bike and run than last year (although, to be honest, the wind-shortened swim course helped, too).

  • Comments: I never like to second guess RDs, but I question whether they had enough support on the water today or whether people should have even been out there at all. Other than that, a great event with lots of volunteers.

  • Comments: The waves are mixed with different age-groupers and men and women. Makes it hard to estimate how you are doing in your age-group. I recommend setting up waves by sex and age. This race is big enough to do that. I would like to see more solid food like sandwiches or BBQ at the end. They also ran out of cokes for the half-finishers. I also would like to see security in transition for peace of mind. There are no bike checkers, which would make it simple to have a bike stolen. This is my second year at High Cliff. Last year, I did the Sprint and this year was the HIM. Overall, this is a good race and course. Will do again.

  • Comments: I needed this half ironman in order to see where I stood in my training, but the overall event was not run as well as some of the other races I have done before. I was very disappointed to see the fact that so many of the water stations at the end had been abandoned and some out of water. The finish line was already almost torn down. There were certainly parts of this race that need a lot of work, but overall, it was good.

  • Comments: water stations were a little bunched up, but very much appreciated when I got to them. Great race for me, a 10 minute PR. Hope to build off of that for Door County and finally IMWI~

  • Comments: Drinking stations on run were mostly abandoned on the second half of my run. Not much going on by the time I finished, but you can't really blame anyone, I took a long time.

  • Comments: Race run much better than last year! As mentioned, I had a lot riding on this race. Not just in regard to my future in tris, but also in my ability in general to implement a plan to overcome a challenge. Again, epic failure. Maybe it was stupid to give so much weight to a goofy bike ride, but I did. I am not meaning to diminish anyone you took this long or longer to complete this event. I completely respect everybody out there in less than ideal conditions. I also understand that I might have fallen a bit short on my goals with the steamy conditions. However to fall SO short of MY goals is a huge disappointment. One from which recovery will not come easy, if at all.

  • Comments: As always my BT friends came through when there was a fellow donk in trouble and in need of help. A HUGE thank you to firstnet911 for taking me to the ER and making sure I was ok. Also to Maggyruth for cheering me on at the finish and standing by my side to make sure I was ok. And a big thank you to Sgoehner and his wife, Danielle for helping us out by gathering everything out of transition and making sure we were ok. You guys ROCK!!

  • Comments: Great course talk; pre-game activities. Good organization of transition area by wave and bib number; pool to clean feet at T entrance. Large arrows on bike course even out day before to test out route. Swim course well marked; nice mat on exit so no issues with rocks. Grassy transition area. THINGS TO FIX: 1) Ran out of water at last bike station. 2) Need mile markers on run...or at least volunteers at aid stations to know that mile they are at. A camper told me someone was hurt....and then we had to run to the next aid station to tell someone. 3) Please, keep up all finish line activities until all racers have finished. With more than 50 racers still on the course, the chute started coming down. The caterer packed up the hot food, the medical tent was out of ice, and the massage therapist was done for the day. Anyone who finished in the last 10 did not even get to cross the finish line balloon thing..only cross a timing mat. Aren't these the people who deserve to see

  • Comments: Great park, great location (except the water). Very disappointed in this race and will not be doing it again. Normally I'm very impressed with MidwestSportsEvernts but not any more: 1. Transitioin fence was torn down before I finished. Anyone could have walked off with bikes, wetsuits...ect. there is NO EXCUSE for this. 2. No mile markers on the bike or run. I had a garmin, but most did not. 3. Med tent and organisers could not give me directions to the nearest emergency room. Again, no excuse. 4. Aid stations were clumped together. Many on the first part of the loop and none at the end. The volunteers at the aid stations were awesome, but the locations sucked. 5. Lake Winnabego was like pea soup. I'm not sure that any lake is clean this year, but this was terrible. Having done a branded 70.3 the week before, I'll pay an extra $50 to have a better run race. My local half next year will be SOR.

  • Comments: I'm very happy with my performance on this race. I was able to take off 12' from my time last year and run a good 1/2 marathon. Besides the minor cramping on the bike I felt really good as well. Gotta love that. The race was put on decently, but seems to be always lacking really good organization and execution. The start was late, as always. Support on the bike course was good but the run could have used a few more aid stations on each loop. Overall a decently run race but it could be so much better.

  • Comments: I had a blast. The support from my family, the donks, and everyone in attendance was great. I really want to thank firstnet911, amyjotris, maggyruth, peterAK and his wife Laurie for helping me try to stay calm the day before. I was sort of a wreck mentally on Saturday as I really wanted to perform well but didn't know what I had in me. I really want to thank my wife Danielle for putting up with me and helping me get through this. My goal was 5:45 and secretly I always wanted to do under 5:30, but didn't think I had it in me. I am amazed that I did 5:20 and cannot wait to do Steelhead to try and better this result.

  • Comments: Decent race. They do a good job running things, but the lake can be disgusting if you are on the squemish side. Biking and running up the cliff is a nice challenge, as is the trail type of run. The usually have a nice spread afterwards too and I stuffed my face pretty bad. We shall see about next year as it doesnt have me so over the moon that I wouldnt want to try out some other venues just for a change of pace.

  • Comments: Great race would do it again. My only complaints: The transition area was tight, to many people where assigned to each rack, making it very difficult to set up gear. The food @ post race would have been great after a cross country ski race, but it wasn't, it was hot, and the post race food was hot pulled pork, baked potatoes, and hot mixed vegitables. I tried some later and it was good, but all I wanted was cold water melon, cantalope, and a grape icy. • Comments: This was my one year anniversery doing tris. Even though I blew up on the run, looking back I see just how far I've come in this sport. Thanks to the BT'er that sent me inspires over the last year, and Special thanks to TriDDS in helping to calm my nerves in the last week before this race. Much appreciated. Course was good, with a few gripes. 1. Needed better milage markers on both the bike and run 2. Ran out of water at some run aid station 3. Food mostly gone for us BOPers Having watched them set up since Friday, I have a new respect on what goes on behind the scenes to put on a HIM. I'll be back next year.
