  • Comments: Overall, I was pleased. Afterall I finished! For my first year, that was enough. However, I plan to improve in the future and focus a lot more on the swimming and cycling.

  • Comments: The swim course is in the scenic Potomac River with the Washington Monument operating as your sight line to the swim exit. The swim start is just a short two minute walk from the transition area. The bike route takes competitors along the Potomac River and through Rock Creek Park on wide smooth roads perfect for aerobars. The run route is a challenging single loop into downtown DC past the monuments, memorials and history of the Nation’s Capital. This year the finish line has been moved so that it is next to the transition area so that it is easier and more convenient for athletes, their family and friends. Now from one location you can watch the swim, bike, run and finish!!

  • Comments: I think it was, overall, a great experience. I've never been to D.C. before. However, I think it was too crowded, especially on the bike. Also, post-race PBJ was sort of a letdown.

  • Comments: Don’t let the logistics of having to go to the pre race briefing at packet pick up and racking your bike on Saturday put you off. It was very well organized. Try to avoid using a car unless you have someone that can double park for you and wait in the car. Or just go straight for a garage, I found one near the hotel for a flat rate of $8. The post race activities are great, band, phones to call your family, massage and excellent food. The venue is great.

  • Comments: There's no reason I shouldn't have been faster on my two events. Since I didn't have anything to save for the run, and I haven't been training for the run, I should have been a beast on the swim and bike. While I may have had an equipment issue (bike brake), I still should have done much better. All in all, though, I had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed this race. I'm not certain if I will do it again next year, but I would recommend it to others.

  • Comments: I enjoyed this race. It was kind of fun doing a "big race" like this, but as you would expect, logistics are a bit of a pain. You've just to expect that and go with it in an event like this. I thought the organizers did a great job of getting all of the swim waves off relatively on time (I was in wave 28, and I think we were maybe 3 minutes past our "scheduled" start time, which really isn't bad considering how many people they had to get started). Overall, I'm pretty happy with my race performance (to 25% in my AG, top 30% in my gender) considering my lack of training over the past month or so. I forgot to start my watch at my wave start, so I had no idea of what my overall race time was during the course of the race. Had I known I was within a minute of 3:00, I would have pushed a little harder on the bike or run. Then again, it was kind of nice "racing" without regard to my overall time.

  • Comments: I was concerned about the size of the event and wondering if they were really over-extending themselves. But overall it was really well run, things flowed fairly smoothly and the course was not nearly as crowded as I thought it would be. Of course I did go off earlier but still was in the 7th wave, so there were probably 1,000 people ahead of me on the course. After race grub was decent and they had chairs and tables set up for participants and friends to sit and listen to a live band and other stuff. I'm overall very satisified with my performance given all the concerns I had coming into the race. Even with the really slow swim I still finished top 10% overall and in the AG. I pushed to the best of my ability for the day and had no real disasters at all. Just another solid effort and good day. Couldn't have asked for anything more!

  • Comments: It was much more organized than I thought it would be. I expected chaos, but mostly everything went off without a hitch. Sure there were little problems (they need more organization on swim start), but it was fun and well run.

  • Comments: Too many people for this course. They need to spread out the waves to keep the bike course less crowded. PBJ's aren't good post race food. I didn't see much else. I think they could have done better. Last year they had pizza and subs. This year basically nothing.

  • Comments: What I am thrilled about: 1.God swim and I even swam over people without caring 2.Speedy T1, even with the issues 3.Good mental state on the ride even though I was ready to give up 4.Kept with it on the run and had enough in me to push it at the end 5.Had a PR!!! I had a ton of fun going away and doing this race and want to travel again. I was a bit disappointed about my bike and the shop for not checking the screw, but in the end, it was fun and i still had a great race. I would do another out of state race again. So, what would I have done different: 1.Not forget my bike # 2.Check over my bike better and secure all screws! 3.I am sure you notice that I never mentioned endurolyetes...Well, I did not take any since it wasn't that hot..big mistake! I am sure that is why I was light headed from the swim, and also why my legs cramped on the run. So, follow my race plan!!!! 4.Not take a gel before the run...I did not have it in my race plan and still did it...again..follow

  • Comments: For as many people as there were, the race itself went great. I thought the post-race food was pretty lame, and passed that up. Wished I had eaten it though, because walking 1.5 miles to the metro, and then 1 mile home with my bike and very heavy transition bag was as brutal as anything that day. Next year, I age group up, and will be even leaner and faster. I will do this race again because it was a pretty good course (in my limited experience). I want to see how I will improve next year.

  • Comments: I was terrified that this race was going to be an organizational disaster. I heard that the bike was crowded last year, and there were twice as many competitors this year. I think it must have been a lot worse for those who started behind me. This is my first race longer than a sprint. I went into the race hoping to beat 2:40:00, and I cranked out a 2:26:07. I've never felt this good in a race before. I didn't feel like I was pushing hard at all, but I was flying. Of course that leads to the after-race second guessing that I should have pushed harder, but I'm sure I would have blown up if I had.

  • Comments: Overall it was much better then I thought. Lots of fabulous volunteers running things. Also fewer participants then anticipated made it feel safer and less scary (especially when the bike course would narrow). This was my first OLY and I think I am hooked!

  • Comments: The race wasn't nearly as crowded as expected. They need to take charge of the swim pen a little better, as many racers were blocked from the start by the herd of racers who got into the chute too early (including me!) I am happy to be on the 'right side' of MOP!

  • Comments: This is my third year racing this event. Two years ago, it was completely different, they moved it to the new transition area and course last year. The course is good, the streets could use a little repaving in spots. Even though the long walk between finish and transition last year was a negative to some, I really preferred finishing on Pennsylvania Ave with the Capitol Building in the background. The walk back to transition was a nice cool down and recovery time.

  • Comments: Won the first annual and imaginary all DCI Cup. Raced with Geoff & Maureen Basye, Dan Combs and Aaron Gardner. I think this is my PR. In 2007, I turned in a time of 2:28 but never believed the course was long enough...the splits were too fast. Very happy.

  • Comments: Surprisingly well run despite the size. They picked very wide roads which really gave everyone a chance to spread out on the bike. I wish they had marked or covered more of the big potholes on the run. That would have been helpful. Post race spread could have been better...when I'm done racing I don't want PBJ! I want crappy pizza! Grease! Beer! Bad things! All in all, I really don't like doing races this big...way too much hassle for what you get. :(
