Pre-race routine:

I was flying solo to this race because my husband was locked up in Dolphins Training Camp. :) I packed up my gear the day before, checked and double checked to make sure I had everything, had a light dinner and headed to bed early. Woke up at 330am to be in the car by 4-410 at the latest. Wanted to get there by 5am to secure the end spot on the bike rack and a good parking spot. :) I got there shortly after 5 and got my end spot. I was #16, so I was on the rack with all the elites... lol. I dropped my stuff off in the transition area and headed back to my car to read and listen to music until there was enough light to see what I was doing. I think this part really set me up for success because I was seriously just able to chill out by myself and focus on having a great race. At about 630am, I set up my transition area and I was ready to go!!

My swimming is still slow, but this time I felt a lot more COMFORTABLE in the water. And I took about 3 minutes off of last time. :)
What would you do differently?:

Work on speed, but honestly, as long as I'm not drowning... I'm good!

This transition went pretty smoothly... well, minus the fact that our transition area was pretty much a standing puddle of WATER. It was pointless to put on socks, but I did anyway because you know what they say... don't do anything different on race day!

I was very pleased with my performance on the bike. I was not very surprised to learn I was 2nd in my age group on the bike... I think it has come to be the part of the triathlon I can really make up some ground from the slow swim. :)
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder up the hills... come out of the saddle more.

Ok, this is where I was thinking it was all going downhill from here. My socks were wet, so when I tried to put my feet on top of my shoes, they slipped and my shoes started to skid on the pavement. There really wasn't enough time to correct it, so I just prayed they didn't fall off before I got to the dismount sign. They didn't. So I was frazzled by that because last time I did it perfectly and this time there were "oooohs" and "watch out!" "careful!" comments from the spectators. So then I get into transition and the guy next to me left me ZERO room to rack my bike. THEN I started running and realized I forgot to take my helmet off. CLASSIC, right?!?!?! LOL so one of the volunteers actually took it back to my bike for me (saving me about 5 seconds). This transition time is not bad by any means, but it could've been smoother. I was #124 overall in T2.
What would you do differently?:

Not let something that went wrong cause other things to go wrong... just let it go and focus on what's next!

I guess when it comes to kicking it up a notch at the end, I've definitely got that covered. I was surprised that my pace was so fast (for me!)!!! It was 8:28. I focused on taking longer strides this time and keeping relaxed. A girl in my age group caught up to me at the last half mile. We were neck in neck until the finish line came into view and then she just inched past me. I couldn't keep up with her!! Her legs were as long as my whole body! LOL We ended up talking at the finish line, high-fiving, etc. She beat me out for the podium spot... but oh well. This was my first time placing in the trilogy, so I was happy enough to go home with hardware!!!
What would you do differently?:

Wish I could've been able to push through and come home with 3rd, but oh well... better luck next time!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and cooled down/caught my breath before getting everything loaded back into the car. I was ready to go, so I walked over to look at the results (wholly prepared to just get back into the car and drive home), when I saw that I came in 4th!!! I was so excited! All that hard work this summer preparing for these races finally paid off in the end. The LAST RACE! :) What a way to go out! I stayed long enough to get my award, then I was homeward bound!! What a great drive home! :)

Event comments:

I like Miami Marine Stadium better than Crandon Park. Mostly because of the swim/bike transition is SOOO long at Crandon. The bike course is pretty much the same, so not complaints there, but the run course is a lot better at MMS. Lots of shade, soft terrain, etc.

Course: Coming up the Rickenbacker the first time was a piece of cake because the wind was helping... the second time was a little more of a struggle, but still not bad. Just pushed through and focused on passing people. :)
