Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:00AM Yikes!...

15 min strecting and massaging the legs...

Usual breafast 2 Eggo waffles. Drank a BOOST as well. The Boost sat a little heavy with me initially but cleared up by race time.

Parked on E9th street (left side) just as you make the turn on to 9th street from the freeway exit. No problems getting out of the garage after the race.

Stowed my extra running gear at the event tent on E9th and St. Clair. This worked out well.

The prerace lines at the numerous port-a-potties near the start line where very long.
Event warmup:

No warmup today! To many runners around the start line to do any running warmup of any kind. Marathoners (3,000) and half-marathoners (3,000) started at 7:00AM. 10K ers (2,500) started at 7:20AM.

Comments:

Race time temps in upper 50's or low 60's . No extra clothing require. Tee shirt and shorts. That's it. A little shower and some gusty winds just before the race started where short lived and cleared nicely for a good race.
What would you do differently?:

Line up closer to the starting line.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't do any jogging around after the race. Picked up my running gear stowed at the luggage tent where I had a Hammer Recoverite sports drink bottle waiting for me which I quickly downed. Enjoyed a popsicle a guy was handing out at the finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A slow start and a slow first mile because of the number of runners and where I lined up for the race.

Event comments:

Great race! Loved the crowds and the competition.

Plenty of food and beverage choices after the race.

I started my HRM as soon as the race started. However, it took me what seemed like forever (30-45 sec) to cross the starting line because of the number of runners and where I was in the line up of runners. My first mile was understandibly slow because of the difficultly in weaving around the slower runners and some of the walkers who should have been at the rear of the line up. Info from my HRM AHR 160 MHR 180 - was pushing it! Mile 1 8:27 AHR 154 Mile 2 7:40 AHR 151 Mile 3 7:46 AHR 159 Mile 4 7:26 AHR 160 Mile 5 7:18 AHR 164 Mile 6 7:16 AHR 165 xxx .6 4:18 AHR 169 Total time 50:12
Course: Race info literature said it was a flat course. Not exactly true. There were no hills per say, but the long inclines on the freeway (route 2) and freeway entrances were certainly stressful. Brief description of course:started at E13 and St Clair. Lakeside to 9th Street. 9th St to Route 2 westbound freeway entrance. Exited at 28th for a short loop and back onto Route 2 Eastbound and exited at Lakeside and back to the finish line on St. Clair. There was a misque on the 10K route for an unknown number of lead runners. How that affected the standings is difficult to determine. I am sure the route misque is the reason I am listed as being in 4th place in my age group. However, my race time correct and I am very pleased with my time.
