Pre-race routine:

Got up and immediately had something to eat - muffin and hard-boiled egg. Took shower, got dressed, and drove the hour to Newport for the staging area and to catch a bus to start of race.
Event warmup:

Only time to walk a bit, but felt pretty good for the start.

Comments:

A PR by 3:58, and did the sub 2 hour that I was shooting for as a stretch goal. 9:03 opening mile (through all of the race congestion), next six miles were each sub 9. Next five miles were in the 9's (mile 10 was 10:00; really tiring on hills). Knew that I could break the 2-hour mark and did mile 13 in 8:42. Kicked as hard as I could for the last .1 and then had to wait for the official chip time. My time on the clock was 2:03:55, but I knew that I started 4+ minutes after the gun.
What would you do differently?:

Skip the fuel belt. I liked the security of knowing I could drink whenever, but at times the belt just annoyed me. Especially on a race with water stops.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked some, tried to get warm.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did as well as I could have wanted - PR by 4 minutes and breaking the 2-hour mark.

Event comments:

Need to work on bus transportation - lots of people to move, and seemed always lines. And lines for port-a-johns, and everything else. I started late while hundreds were all in line for port-a-johns, and lots in line to check0in clothes, etc...

9:03, 8:53, 8:56 fighting thru the crowds. 8:55, 8:50, 8:55 closing in on the first half of race. 8:59, 9:04, 9:14 starting to tire a bit. 10:00, 9:10, 9:44 pushing on, but feeling tired from speed of start. 8:42, 0:59 (.1) to finish strong.
Course: Started with an uphill, and then rolling course throughout. Ended with downhill which was nice, although needed to keep under control to avoid any muscle problems.
